How Activity Works

Articles on GameGrep all have an activity rating. Think of it like the "Grep Score". You see this beside each news article on the homepage. This Activity Score is your ticket to identifying the most interesting, funny, and controversial news out there! The hottest topics and most exciting discussions occur in articles that have higher Activity.

How does Activity work? Activity is a combination of user ratings, user participation, and readership, amongst other factors. The combination of all these factors create a final score that is key to identifying what articles you should check out.

Right now because GameGrep is a new site most articles will have pretty low activity. You can help remedy this! Make sure you only rate articles that actually pique your interest. When you are rating an article you are effectively helping others in the community by recommending this article for them to read! Participate in articles that you like, send articles of interest to your friends, and link to articles from your homepage and your blog. Get the word out and the GameGrep Activity system will automatically recognise the article as being of greater interest to others.

Stale articles

After a certain point, articles can become scale. This is an automated procedure that automatically helps to hide articles which appear to have lesser appeal. Fresh articles are always the ones with enough activity to have marked them as interest.

Articles do not get marked stale just because they are older. Freshness on GameGrep is a measure of whether you would be interested in an article, and is not related to age. In this way the system is self pruned by community behaviour and member interest.
