s0rethumbs thinks Bethesda's Fallout 3 needs a different title. The choice to change FO3 from an isometric to a primarily FPS/TPS has got them asking how much are these games related.

"At least when Microsoft developed Halo Wars, an RTS, they didn't call it Halo 4, because its a different game that uses the Halo world. Same goes with Fallout 3, they should call it “Fallout V.A.T.S.” (the added 'Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System), something that's unique about this particular game. Don't ruin a great series by mixing genres and titles."

Hmmm this is pretty much what the guys at No Mutants Allowed have been saying all along.

I sort of agree. The game doesn't have all that much in common with Fallout 1 and 2 (in gameplay terms), so I don't see why they don't call it Fallout XXXXXX .

I see what they mean here, They should follow GTA's example. No. 3 had a new engine, VC AND SA had the same engine but diferent cities so they were not numbered. However GTA4 DID have a new engine so it WAS numbered, it doesn't seem to make sense but it actually does in the grand scheme.

Resident Evil 4 had nothing to do with its predecessors other than the title. Final Fantasy is the same. So what. Whats in a name?

In most of the Final Fantasies its generally limited TP or isometric perspective - Which aren't a huge difference. At least not like FP. Still, Final Fantasy was never really a "series." Old characters are re-referenced, but not in any linear form. Unlike Fallout which #2 is the great grand-son/daughter of the original fallout hero...

If the gameplay is similar, then the milieu (the environment) is generally the same and the narrative stays closer to the original.

Still, I think its a little ignorant to say they "butchered" the game so soon.

I think that anyone who complains about Fallout 3 not being isometric needs to stick their head in a bucket of ice water and keep it there until the bubbles stop rising. The idea of ignoring all games in the Fallout universe from part 2 onward is just referencing the canon. Those games were not generally liked by Fallout fans, and were pretty disposable as games themselves. Fallout 3 continues the story left off in Fallout 2, and no one plays isometric games anymore. Making an isometric game nowadays is almost a death-sentence for sales. I know I wouldn't have played it. It was a cheap way to do 3D back in the day before systems could handle true 3D, so I don't see what the big deal is. The roleplaying seems to be as deep as ever, the story as dark and violent as ever and the world even more detailed than ever before, so why complain?

Your right in many ways dude, but overall I don't agree. I agree with it'd be dumb to make a isometric style Fallout in 2008 -- but, I think Fallout 3 shouldn't be called Fallout 3 because of the gameplay differences.

Fallout 1 and 2 were strict RPG's. Fallout 3 does not look like it will have nearly the same roleplaying depth as the old games. It's a much more action-orientated design.

Furthermore I don't see why they want to call out Fallout 3 anyways. The old-timer gamers realize that F3 won't be anything like F1+2, and the new-timer gamers aren't familiar with F1 and F2, so I think they should have started a new Fallout series.

But whatever. Bethesda bought the license so I guess they can do whatever they want. I'm really looking forward to this game either way...

Fallout 3 will not be Fallout. It will be Oblivon with guns.

Bethesda said they were going to take out the self-referential jokes to make the world seem more “real.” Fast travel, lack of all the maturity that made fallout, fallout has been striped out.

      Article is spot on.

Have you played a Blizzard game? D3 will definitely be an amazing Isometric game. IT just takes a little more creativity to make a good Isometric game, which Bethesda was too lazy to do. So they slapped Fallout 3 on Oblivion.

Dude Diablo 2 came out many, many years ago in gaming terms. D3 will definitely not be an isometric game.

Halo Wars is actually a prequel to Halo: CE.
