8 hours 49 mins ago
What's Sony's fatal mistake in their poor launch and poor sales? Loot Ninja narrows the option down to the fact that they discontinued the 80GB Playstation 3's. Maybe they'll boost at the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle? Maybe they've lost to towards the gamers that bought the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV. Who knows? We won't unless we rewind back to the release of the PS3.
Did Sony make a mistake by not stocking store shelves with 80GB consoles during this crucial period in the console life cycle? Theyre on the upswing after a poor launch, but could they have garnered even more sales during the first half of 2008? With the enormous launch of Grand Theft Auto IV in April, how many gamers chose the Xbox 360 version of the game because they couldnt get backwards compatibility in a PS3 and didnt want to wait? How many of those customers bought an Xbox 360 instead of waiting until mid-June?

I wouldn't have minded a 60gb PS3. It was a great deal. It was the "perfect balance" in between the 40gb and the 80gb (at least, for me it was).
But yeah, Sony are making a mistake. I mean I understand their business strategy and the amount of money they are losing by producing the 60/80GB versions but they need to continue to produce at least the 80GB if they want to increase their sales. 40GB PS3's alone won't help Sony in the long run.
