Inflated Review Scores Don't Apply to Nintendo

plower glove | June 05, 2008 | Blog | Misc
Blockbuster releases like GTA IV and MGS 4 are making headlines as they receive great reviews from major outlets. But are these scores deserved? Nintendo is one of the best at milking their own franchises, releasing iteration after iteration of the same game. But the latest editions of these franchises don't necessarily add new gameplay elements, and they should all be held to the same standard of accountability by reviewers...
Recently, I have noticed an uproar in the gaming community over inflated review scores for GTAIV and Konami's upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4. GTA4 currently holds a solid A-score on Metacritic's weighted average while MGS4 has been getting 90-100% scores before even being released to public. Interestingly, GTA4 has an "only good" B-score for user submitted averages. This shows that professional gaming editorials are handing out scores higher than what the general public may agree to. Nintendo seems to be immune to these allegations...

lol, somebody has officially stated the obvious. I don't think Nintendo will ever stop milking franchises, but I wonder about Mario, what will his future hold, because you can't really top going to Space and flying through hundreds of Toybox themed Galaxies. =/

People are now learning this? Wow, if nintendo keeps milking there games, for example Mario Zelda Metroid Im fully going to hate them forever.

Take risks, make a new Franchises; put down the small fat plumber to rest, the bow slinging Zelda or the shooting Metroid prime and make new games.

One of the reasons I don't like them now.

I don't mind if they keep the Mario franchise going, as long as they don't stop making GOOD Mario games (like Galaxy, 64, etc) in exchange for the crappy mini-games.

But I pretty much agree with Final Blade... Nintendo need to start coming up with new ideas and new franchises. In this gen people seem to have finally noticed that Nintendo just keep bringing out the same box or tricks over and over again. Many are getting sick of it. We want something new, because same ol' same ol' Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. games aren't going to be enough to get people into buying a console.

Gothic Girl, that is true, but there isn't much Ninty can work with these days without completely dropping it's "family friendly" status.

How you figure? Thats what Nintendo does. They don't have to have M rated games to be popular, they just need something original.

Nintendo has covered almost Video Game Genre out there and still wants their 1st Party Titles to give off this "kiddie vibe", so that's why I'm saying there isn't much room for them to expand. They'll need to step out their comfort zone (lol, anagrams) if they want to succeed in the future.
