Why the haters need to cut Wii Fit some slack

shuandrew | June 08, 2008 | Blog | Wii
Despite its enormous success, Wii Fit continues to receive criticism for its approach towards exercise, but Balance Board Blog feels that the title is being treated too harshly, particularly considering what it has achieved. It discusses why Wii Fit should be cut some slack.
Although there have been similar efforts before it, no exer-gaming title has been promoted so fiercely (or sold so well), so isn't it about time we stopped scrutinising Wii Fit so negatively and beginning appreciate it for what it is, and what Nintendo has dubbed it all along - the first step to a healthier lifestyle, an attempt to make exercise fun, and one of the most revolutionary inventions the videogaming industry has ever soon?

And to those 'hardcore' gamers who dubb the arival of Wii Fit as the beginning of the end of for videogaming as we know it, it is perhaps time to embrace change within the industry, accept that if the hobby you love it to continue to grow and evolve, then games like Wii Fit are as much a part of it as the latest driving simulator of first-person shooter.

Uh, I don't follow their logic. People aren't stupid; they aren't going to go out and exercise if they don't want to, even if it is a game. Consider it's more expensive than an actual gym membership, and you see why people bash it so badly.

The reason it's selling is because Nintendo is forcing it down everyone's throats at every possible juncture. When it has that much exposure, it's obviously going to find sales.

That, and Nintendo is marketing it as an excersise machine/game, when Miyamoto himself admitted that the Wii Fit wasn't meant to make people fit. (the name "Wii Fit" itself is misleading enough for people who don't go out of their way to research games).

So when people find out that the Wii Fit isn't all that they had hoped for, naturally they're going to be shitty about it.
