Biggest Budget Disasters In Video Game History

kyledawg92 | June 13, 2008 | Blog | PC Playstation 3
Some games end up failing no matter the amount of develop money invested into them. Whether it's because they were over-hyped, or just because they were plain terrible and destined to fail from the start.
Waterworld. Hudson Hawk. Showgirls. The movie world is replete with examples of projects that swallowed up vast amounts of cash only to sink beneath the waves, vanish into Bruce Willis' past, or disappear into our darkest nightmares. So too is the world of videogames, and although there's no game failure that can quite match the sheer scale of the movie world's excesses, there's still no shortage of games so unsuccessful that they brought down companies, destroyed careers, and shattered dreams. Here are seven of our favorites.

i would throw the spirits within in there even tho it was a movie. It had final fantasy in its name and it crashed n burned pretty bad.

Dunno why, though. Guess the expectations from the hardcore fans was what caused it, 'cause I watch it whenever I get the chance.

Generally when Final Fantasy fans watch a Final Fantasy movie, they expect it to have some relevance to the Final Fantasy series.
          Spirits Within had none.

It was a great movie. If it didn't have Final Fantasy in it's name, it would've been more successful. People expected relevance, but with a series like FF, where no game has relevance to another, I don't see why they did. Still, great movie.

@GG - Well, really, they shouldn't think that way, since aside from sequels (FFX-2) and spin-offs (FF VII stuff >_>), each FF universe/story didn't have much anything to do with eachother.

I lik Spirits Within, and the graphics were great IMO, and still look good now Sadly, a couple/few years ago, I saw it on sale at EB for a paltry $5.....I should have picked it up >_> Maybe I'll get the Blu-ray version at some point....

On the article, I wonder what the Last Express was about, and it's gameplay? CBA too look though, since I doubt I'd get a chance to play it anyhow....

And LOL at the ET one, I did hear i was massively sucky (and not even complete, besides), but tha it cost so much, AND supposedly hearalded the era's video game crash, AND had it's unsold cartridges just litterally DUMPED (in a garbage heap)? You can suck any worse if you tried >_>

I personally didn't like the Sims online. They could have made it better than it was.
