Jack Thompson blaming school shooting tragedy on video games

Gary15 | April 16, 2007 | Blog | Misc
Jack Thomspon is using the tragic incident that occured today at VA tech to try and further his aim of pinning violent crimes on video games.
Yep, despite the fact that he's a known liar, infamous for threatening fellow attorneys and judges and is on the cusp of (one would hope) losing his license to practice law in Florida, Jack Thompson managed to weasel his way onto Fox News to spew his own particular brand of hate and lies.

That's right, Thompson is trying to link the worst shooting in U.S. history, the one that occurred earlier today at Virginia Tech, to video games.

What I love about this is that just about everything he says on live television is blatantly not true, like blaming video games on the Red Lake High School shooting.

It saddens me that filth like Jack can get on national television to gloat and revel in the deaths of so many and try to put it off as education

I was personally quite appaled by this. It just seems to be like he is trying to use a really tragic event such as this to further his own agenda.

lol, if this is appaling then I assume you haven't heard much about Jack Thompson? He's done a lot of stuff like this; blaming video games for violence, etc. Someone had stollen a car and there was a video game inside the car. Guess who blamed the guys actions on video games? yup, goold ol' Mr. Thompson. The guys over at Penny Arcade actually had some troubles with him, too. All of which were highly amusing to read about.

Yeah I read the whole penny arcade episode where he tried to get them arrested, he's a total joke, but it seems as soon as something bad happens he jumps on it to blame video games.

Yeah it's the worst school shooting in the US ever I think, really sad, that's why it gets to me that Jack Thomspon jumps on it like this. He doesn't give a damn about the people who died he just wants to get his point across.

At least he never directly blamed GTA for this, because he has linked a death to nearly every GTA and not to forget Manhunt.

Quite a stupid thing to come out with. To be honest, I've never heard of him before but this sounds pretty pathetic. Gary's first comment seems right too, tragic to hear about this though.

I don't see how someone could take such a tragic event and try to twist it to make himself seem right about something....

I know Jack Thompson was a bit of a soccer-parent "Ban all things above Teen" kind of person toward gaming, but this takes the cake.

An embarrassment to society, I say. I got an idea, how about we blame the stupid things of this world on Jack Thompson!?

    Seriously, that's just sick.

Leave it for this jackass to use a great tragedy like this as a platform for his anti-violent entertainment. While watching Fox this morning about this, they had Jack Thompson on the phone, as a "School Shooting Specialist". After hearing that title, I died a little bit. After this he began naming off games that shooters used as "training", such as; GTA: Vice City, Doom, and company.

I don't live in America but I heard a lot about him being on tv news channels over there, did anyone happen to catch what he was saying?

It makes you wondering what really has him so pissed off at video games. I live in West Virginia and a lot of the people here were really appalled seeing as they knew some people near or in the school. 33 lives lost and he blames it on a game. That's sick in itself.

I completely agree. Jack Thompson took his chance, and no doubt waited for something like this to happen. 33 lives were lost, yet he has the nerve to blame this terrible incident on video games. Really is sickening.

Jack Thompson is an idiot. Videogames have nothing to do with it and this guy constantly blames them! Seriously, this guy should just kill himself because no one will miss him. Okay, maybe not kill himself, but he needs to be punished somehow.

Gary, the already politically-slanted Fox News summoned Jack Thompson as some sort of "expert" on this, even though he's a goddamned lawyer. And he was already calling out games WITHOUT ANY BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE GUNMAN.

It's not just this jackass, it's the media too.

Man that is just sad... taking a nation-wide tragedy and twisting it to support his own cause, people are going to start to believe him no doubt.

What do you mean, "start to believe him"? There's idiots out there already.

Some video games are responsible for certain incidents, while others are just because of the parent being stupid enough to let their child play Grand Theft Auto, but this had in no way, to do with video games...

I find it pathetic how he attempts to connect all gun violence to games.

Thompson is like a parasite, waiting and leeching off of anything that comes his way. His credibility, however is damaged after last year's fiacos, no one is taking him seriously.

Has there been any report of the killer playing any games ala Columbine?

      Gary15 | April 17, 2007
None at all as far as I'm aware, Jack Thompson had jumped in to blame video games before we were even sure who the killer was.

Wasn't DOOM blamed for Columbine, and Marilyn Manson was blamed for the guy that was burning down houses?

Jack Thompson would blame video games for his own birth if he could find a way to do so.
