When it was first announced that Fatal Frame IV was being published by Nintendo, fans were thrilled that the series would FINALLY recieve some much-needed publicity. But as the months passed by, it became apparent that this wouldn't be the case. In fact, Nintendo has done a worse job than Tecmo did at marketing this little-known series!

Emi, the owner of cameraslens.com, has written her opinion on the matter.

[Fatal Frame IV forum]

I support Tecmo full heartedly. Even though sometimes all they wish to talk about is DOA or Ninja Gaiden.

However, the lack of love for Fatal Frame IV is starting to really hit me. I mean, I understand that Nintendo is responsible for the publishing of this game...but if you went to Tecmo's (Japan) main website, you would barely see the game at all (save for a link).
All it's other games coming out are being featured on the BIG screen...but no...not Fatal Frame.

When I heard Nintendo had the rights to this I thought.. 'FINALLY!' FF4 is GOING to get the press it deserves...it's GOING to be all over the news....but FF3 had more coverage than this!

I'm really disappointed in Nintendo, it must not be as big of a title as I thought. Gosh I swear sometimes they make all the fans do the work.

I can't understand why Nintendo (or Tecmo) haven't pushed to have this game fully marketed. There are so many people who haven't even heard of the series, and since it's now on the Wii it'll need extra advertising (since the Wii isn't exactly known for it's suvival-horrors).
I just can't understand why Nintendo don't seem to give a shit about Fatal Frame at all. You've got their first-party games getting the absolute crap out of them advertised (Super Mario Sluggers and Wario Land: Shake It come to mind) and they're being released around the same time as Fatal Frame in Japan.
It's like Nintendo are spitting on Tecmo and saying, "Ha ha! We said we'd support your little-known game, but we really won't! We want everyone to pay attention to our first-party titles instead! MWAHAHAHA!!"

Thats not Tecmo's fault, they're busy with there issues, and Nintendo doesn't care. This is Nintendo's fault, although Tecmo did make it a Wii only game. Maybe next time, they'll make it multiplatform and not this exclusive crap.

Nintendo really wants to push the family friendly image I guess, you can hardly say Fatal Frame is something five year olds and the elderly are gonna want to play.

But then Nintendo has a history of treating its third party support badly

That's the problem though. They chose to be the publishers of the game. Fair enough if they want to push the family-friendly image, but they shouldn't bring down the not-so-family-friendly games in the process. That's just unfair.

Do you even care about Fatal Frame Nintendo/Tecmo?!
    Obviously not. A shame really.

If the 20k shipping figures are to believed, retailers didn't care either.

With darn good reason though. Why would retailers want to sell the game if it's got no advertising what-so-ever? That'd be a waste of money, stocking a large amount of a game that no-one knows about.

I really don't see why any third party developers bother with Nintendo now. Unless you're the size of Square Enix then Nintendo don't seem to care.

This kinda reminds me of how Fox treated Family Guy pre-resurrection. They pushed it all around the schedule, and made little to no ads of its existence. So when it was canned, who did Fox blame? The viewers.

So it sounds to me like Nintendo doesn't care since it's not an official Nintendo Franchise. As for Tecmo? I don't even know.

Meh, I suppose Nintendo knows that, either which way, their Wii's will go off the shelves. They are making profits, and though marketing this game could raise their profits, they'd probably rather focus on their own creations such as WiiFit. :/

What has happened to you, Nintendo? Remember the good old days when you made that awesome Ocarina of time ad and all of the hard core gamers thought you were awesome? Why have you gone to the casual gamers? Why Nintendo? WHY?!?!?
