The 10 Most Fun Boss Battles

RKRigney | July 31, 2008 | Blog | PC Playstation
A lot of games throw in boss fights as a sort of afterthought. They're not creative or particularly fun, but they SHOULD be. Some games get it right and create boss battles that are as memorable as they are fun. SlapStic.com presents a list of 10 that they found to be extremely fun, accompanied by videos for each.
10. The Shredder – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Turtles in Time (Arcade)

I list the arcade version over the SNES because, well, it’s more fun. I remember going to Chuck E Cheese when I was young and walking up to this game with three random other kids and going from beginning to end. I didn’t know who they were, but there was a palpable feel of accomplishment and pride wafting through the air. I also recall having the most fun with this battle than any other in the game. Instead of the normal routine that any Ninja Turtles game consists of post-TMNT 1 for the NES (jump, air-kick thing, maybe a special move that depletes health), you had to harm the Foot Soldiers before tossing them into the screen at Shredder. Not really much else to say; I’ve just always thought this battle was awesome.

Ahhh, the "Blind the Thief" boss from Zelda: A Link to the Past brough back so many great memories. Now I want to re-play aLttP.

By the way, #3 isn't Pokemon Red or Blue. This is the real Elite 4 from Pokemon Red/Blue. Also, great memories. Agatha, the 3rd of 4, always freaked me out.

The Gray Fox battle from MGS1 was fantastic. That was around the time you started thinking that the game was friggin' epic.

The Metaknight battle was gret too, though I preferred the DeDeDe/Dark Knight battle at the end of Kirby's Dreamland 2. It was hard, but it was fun.

Haven't played it yet. I was aware of plenty of "missed" boss battles because I haven't played them, but I'd have to make a "The 10 most fun boss battles that I haven't played myself but hear that they're great" article. Maybe next week.

Glad you changed the article to include the correct Elite 4 from Pokemon Red/Blue.

    Another pretty poor, nostalgia-based list.

No mention for The Collossus in God Of War II? The Minotaur in God Of War I? The End in MGS3? Del Lago from Resi 4? The Giant from Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones?

Meh, maybe I'm just biased as well. With the exception of several MGS bosses, all my favourite boss fights are against one's about 100x larger than you. The God Of War series absolutely nails that.

Haven't played GoW II, any PoP or MGS3. I actually almost used the Minotaur in GoW I but didn't for two reasons. One, I don't remember the fight that well, and two, I didn't finish the game and I figured I was missing out on more fun bosses so I didn't use it. I also don't find Del Lago that fun, just a nuisance.
