Express Your Gaming Supremacy and Message Board Kingship! A How-To Guide

RKRigney | August 07, 2008 | Blog | PC
There are a whole lot of jerks online, particularly in gaming-related forums. SlapStic.com presents a sarcastic article targeted to those stuck-up members of the members of the community in the form of a guide on how to be a bigger jerk.
Beating a game into complete submission.

Games were made with one real purpose in mind: to be beaten. However, the definition of beating a game has been largely reworked in favor of very few people. It’s no longer just getting to the end or defeating the final boss. No, that’s just too easy. The only way to actually beat a game is to have done every possible thing there is to do. You beat Lavos? That’s great. But if you didn’t beat Ozzie, Flea, and Slash, you clearly fail. You downed Ruby and Emerald Weapon? Fantastic. But you didn’t do it while taking the Level 1 only, no materia, starting weapons only challenge? Fail again! Sweet, you found the little easter egg writing on the walls. But wait, you didn’t go two hours out of your way to find the dead hobo who thought he could travel time by stabbing his kidneys with a rusty nail? Did you even play this game AT ALL?? So before you think you can brag about your gaming accomplishments, you’d better be retired because there’s absolutely nothing left for you to do. Which is a plus, because you have time for that Spring Fling after all.

Lol. Funny article ... yet kinda sad that it's 100% true. (and sums up the mentality of alot of gamers on forums, sadly >_>)

Don’t forget, though, that when someone more qualified challenges you for your position of Most Hardcorest In All The Land, that you refute everything with a senseless counter-point that is only tangentially related to the argument made.
Omg! ROFL! That sounds like quite a few people in the Neo forums

Hey, where they find that picture of me?!?

Anyway, I think it was a very funny article. I only have a slight disagreement with the first point. While playing older consoles does not necessarily make you more knowledgeable than a younger player, it is still incredibly annoying when these younger players seem to believe that their generation started video games. Ocarina of Time is not the first Zelda and Halo is not the first FPS, yet many of these younger gamers seem to believe so.

First off, I like your avatar and can't wait for its next update. Second, I agree with you. However, "older" gamers need to remember that OoT and Halo can easily be someone's first Zelda/FPS and that it's not their fault, and being born later than the rest doesn't make them less of a gamer.
