The article examines the speculation behind the rumors of what the next Wii hardware will be like, and asks the question: should anyone care at this point?

Ever since Nintendo President Satoru Iwata let word slip that his company was hard at work on the follow-up to their tremendously successful Wii console, rampant speculation brewed across all corners of the Internet. Would Wii 2’s control interface be a mind-control device that allows users to manipulate games with the power of their brain? When would this new device be coming to market?

The real question that gamers should be asking is: why should I care right now?

Good question. Why should we care right now? I'm happy with my current consoles, thanks. I'll worry about shelling out more money later.

Really would be shitty if they just named it the Wii 2. How about the Revolution?

      Or the "Super Wii".

      Yeah... I'd buy that.

Im hoping that was sarcasm, considering the Wii was supposed to be called revolution yet instead they chose Wii for fun.

TBH I don't care about the name, the system is too far off to be worrying about it.

Hmm, Nintendo could call it the Wii 2, thus every casual gamer who doesn't know better would dog-pile onto it, similar to the PS1/2, but that would also seem lazy and less than creative, but the marketting is more important than the reputation, but they could also go like Microsoft and add a nifty subtitle, they wouldn't be copying because the NES was made the Super NES, but Nintendo, with their traditional: Gameplay first, story second, the name won't be important to them.

That's exatly what Nintendo's aim is. Make milions, but be hated by loyal fans.

I'd rather play the Virtual Boy with a Power Glove.

Wii 2 won't sell as well, Nintendo found a niche make a console stupidly underpowered and thus stupidly cheap you sell lots of consoles and make money. I don't think these graphics they have now will be as accepted in 3 years or so when the Wii 2 comes out, this will mean Nintendo spending more, graphics going up and the price being higher, this will in turn negate 90% of the gamers that bought the Wii as their first console because they only bought it because it was cheap.

If that were true the Vii would be a threat and Wii Fit wouldn't be selling like crazy.

WiiFit looks like a bargain when you think you are going to use it lots and it will make you fit, but neither of those things happen. No one uses WiiFit after they buy it and it doesn't make people fit. The Wii is a rehash of the Gamecube just with a really pathetic motion controller.

What if the other members of this generation only jumped a bit further than the Wii in terms of graphics and power? Would they be a re-hashed version of their predecessors? Because that logic would mean everything before the Playstation and 64 were rehashes of the generation before and every console now is a rehash of the Playstation and 64 (and maybe the dreamcast).

1080p + at least a PSN-like Online Mode or I don't care for this console

Really doesn't matter now; it will be a long while before it releases anyway

The only reason I would want a new one would be to get a DVD player, although, since the homebrew community are working/have worked on one, it really doesn't matter now. I just want more good games to pass the time, because honestly, only a few Wii games have kept me busy in the past year.

Why not buy a cheap DVD player for $20, sit it under you're Wii, and use that?

Because it is a crime that other consoles do have it and the Wii doesn't. I think that not adding a simple DVD player to the Wii (like they did starting on the PS2, which came way earlier than the Wii), was a huge mistake from Nintendo.
