Scott Steinberg of Sony Computer Entertainment of America says they don't plan to follow suit with the precedences of innovation that Nintendo has set. The "senior citizen group" is not their target demographic, and SCEA thinks it can stay hip forever...without breaking its hips like all those darn old people.

Sony believes that if they convert their PS2 users to PS3 upgrades, they can go ahead and tell old gamers to go **** their dentures. What those geniuses at Sony are overlooking, however, is that every human being on earth gets older by the second. Before we realize it, we're all going to be decrepit, wheelchair-wielding, *bleep*-popping senile gamers who use systems like the Wii to get their daily fix of motion.

The author of this piece is obviously taking Sony's comment a LITTLE too seriously.

        2) I meant AUTHOR...the one who WROTE the article? Not submitted it.

        3) What the *bleep* does that have to do with anything?

No, he's referring to the Nintendo Power Glove back in the day, which failed quite miserably. So he attempted to make a joke by comparing the author's name to a failure product by Nintendo, which regardless is still a pretty bad joke.

Both can be a double edged sword i mean ignoring one type of human is bad but so is relying on them for income, the elderly only bought the Wii because of the cost if the Wii 2 is more expensive they will instantly lose that income.

      iLLmatic Aug 13, 08
I don't think an elderly person even bought a Wii. It was just given to them to pass the time.

And that is a funny ass picture.

Because, Ben1 shouldn't get thumbed down for that. You would have done that... (If you aren't following, it's gone because of people like you)

And for people like HawkMan who can't find the REPLY button.

I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT THESE PROBLEMS ARE. Srsly get over it because it's a much better option than having people sit there and argue over shit.

Its stupid cause all the fanboys just thumb down a comment if its against their messiah, Which just makes it turn into a flame war.

It only becomes a flame war when people actually start replying to comments and starting shit.

So, just because you haven't seen any issues, that makes the system fine? Im sure Red has seen the issues otherwise the feature wouldn't be taken away now. And in fact had you seen his post, he did in fact say the original purpose of the feature is no longer being used, hence why its no longer there as well. That and Slumpy pretty much answered your question.

My opinion sucks? Hahaha wow thats laughable, all you've done is be oblivious to the real issues with the thumbs feature. Im a gamegrep contributor, you have a problem with me you know the solution.

          Fatal Error Aug 19, 08
I don't think it's laughable at all, really. Let me know exactly where I've been "oblivious" to anything. Really, I'd absolutely love to know.

Its quite obvious the issues with the thumbs feature, there's no disputing it. Its been stated how many times now?

The thumbs down is gone because a bunch of pansies felt "offended" that some people don't agree with them. Now people can say whatever the hell they want, no matter how stupid it is, now that check and balance system that was the thumbs up and down feature is gone.

I would also love to know where people got the idea that the Wii was a good option for old people. Last I checked, sitting down comfortable is much better for someone's health when they're old and fragile than flailing their arms around.

      Koloth Aug 15, 08
Actually sitting still for ours on end isn't god for anyone. Regardless of age people need to get up and move around to keep their bones and muscles in good shape. As well as prevent stuff like bed sores.

As for an entertainment aspect I fail to see what really makes the Wii so much easier to get into. There is nothing hard about learning how to hit 8 different buttons. The classic controllers aren't some insanely difficult thing to master. My 5 year old can figure out most games just by trial and error. And he can't even read the instructions yet.

        Fatal Error Aug 15, 08
I understand it isn't really good for anyone to just sit there and vegetate all day, but considering the amount of activity that the Wii is advertised to require you'd think these "old people" would be overexerting themselves a bit much just to play a video game.

          Zaraze Aug 15, 08
But that depends entirely on the games they have. And outside of Nintendo's health/sport-based games there aren't really any Wii games that require more than the ability to press buttons and move your wrist.

i cnant actually imagine the console would be any better if it was aimed at old people, id prefer the ps3 as it is now rather then a ps3 that is anything like the wii

    Mudkip94 Aug 19, 08
Thats not nice of sony to say. Old people don't like seeing body parts flying all over the place. I belive most of them don't. But you think an old person is going to sit and play a game like devil may cry all day. Or a game like wii sports. SO they can golf and bowl. And take there anger out in the boxing game

Give my grandpa a Metal Gear Solid game, and he'll love them for life. What's he gonna do with a "game aimed at senior citizens"? He doesn't want any simplistic crap.

    - - -

Anyways, the article is a bit of an over-exaggeration. Sony only said that they are aiming to get PS2 owners and DVD lovers into buying the PS3, not converting senior citizens into gamers. The entire paragraph (about telling old gamers to "*bleep* themselves") is just the author sensationalizing and trying to stir up controversy where there is none. >_>
