The PC has been around for a long time and is the only machine that you can game on that isn't a console. A lot of people eventually expect the PC to die from the consoles sooner or later, but that may not be the case.
With a lot more people gaming on consoles now, the controls on certain games need to be "compromised". RTS games are a great example of that because there is no mouse or keyboard to help you along.
A different example of this is the upcoming zombie shooter
Left 4 Dead. The game is released both on the 360 and PC, but there are going to be some changes made to the gameplay on the console version. Since you won't be able to experience the full speed of the game with the analog sticks, the dead will only be attacking you from the front, making it a lot more easier for you to take care of them. Realistically, zombies wouldn't just come up from the front, the majority of them would want to come up from behind and eat your head.
With the controls and other things affecting console games, is the PC the true machine to game on?
It is well established that this generation of gaming platforms are for different gamers. The Xbox was for your online community gamer, Playstation for your Asian style games and Nintendo for casual gamers. And then there was PC. The venerable gaming platform has suffered from a complex recently, with analysts predicting everything from its death by console in the imminent future, to it being the only platform available within a console generation. With the latest games requiring costly upgrades, only the MMO and solitaire gamers seem to have stuck by their trusty, clunky boxes. The most worrying thing about consoles taking more of our gaming time is the concessions being made for the convenience of the controller.

And other game is better played on a console.
But you can always use a controller on PC.
And I doubt PC gaming will die any time soon. MMO games and Blizzard games in general are keeping it alive.
Highly popular FPS games will also keep the PC in the ring, such as Counter Strike: Source and Call of Duty 4.
