What do women want from video games? Is it the same as men?

Often guys would say girls just want to play a pretty looking game, perhaps on a pink console with flower decoration to complete the ensemble.

Their types of games would be stereotyped and labeled "lame" with games that teach them life skills such as fashion designing or a simple puzzle game. Not those big hit, mass killing and explosives galore awesome games that guys play.

But, is this all one big collection of stereotypes? Are the male and female gamer a lot more similar than most would think?

As a female game journalist, I'm one of the few and the proud, although as a female gamer I'm not nearly as unique as the population of internet forums would probably suggest.

I tend to reject assertions that there must exist a uniquely female palate for video games. I feel that my preferences and aversions as far as video games have more to do with my personal taste and less to do with my gender, and my position is generally that it's the same for most women.

So if Men = Women now, does that mean men can now get pregnant and have to deal with the stress involved with it?

I'm sure he just means that men and women shouldn't be judged to have different tastes in games, we're all gamers. But I'll jump on the wagon I've seen in these comments.

I'm sure most girls agree when I say we only really want more respect. And games that don't try their utmost best to offend/stereotype us.

It's funny how articles like these seem to be so commonplace now. I've published a few on Neoseeker myself. Yet in the end, our work falls on deaf ears as we remain outcasts of most video game communities. We're not men, and that's significant because it means our tastes will not COMPLETELY coincide, even if we express interest in the same types of games, but we're also not the "typical" girl gamer the industry now markets to -- pink packaging isn't meant to appeal to us either.
