Game Tester Fired For Talking About XBOX360 Defects

Krunal | September 13, 2008 | Blog | XBOX 360
Last week an article was published noting the problems of the XBOX 360, and in the article, only one source was named, the source Robert Delaware. However, last wednesday he was fired, and the reason was the VentureBeat article. Reporting directly to a Microsoft Manager, he was told that he was being let go.
Robert Delaware was the only named Microsoft worker (a contract employee) who talked — without permission — to VentureBeat for our story last week on the Xbox 360 defects.

I think many people will be shocked by this.

But this is quite normal in business, It happens all of the time.

He should have been more careful, an alias of some kind would have been smart. Or better yet use one of his rivals names in the company.

TBH, while what he said was true (well, the 360 is well known to have defects, so I'm assuming he was just talking about that stuff), and that it sucks that he got fired over it, I have to say.

WTF was he thinking, using his real name? Did he lack common sense? Of COURSE his employer (part of the MS family) wouldn't be happy about an employee from the MS corporation was bad-mouthing (truth or not) about one of their products.

Same thing would happen if you were an employee under any company pretty much....

Starbucks - Our coffee sucks, and has such and such wrong with it - You'd get fired over that, if they found out it was you.

Just common sense. Which this guy sorely lacked >_>

Lack of common sense, or someone who doesn't beat around the bush and lie about the defects? What he said was true, and imho he shouldn't of been fired for it. But with that said, I still wish him the best. Cause he's a good smart guy who obviously was able to get a job with MS Corporation which isn't easy.

Obviousy not that smart. It is one thing to tell it like it is, it is quite another to senselessly risk your job. He can say the same stuff under an alias, after all.

Sure, using a real name has more 'impact', but it isn't worth risking your job.....

Unless of course he didn't care about his job anymore(or got tired with working with MS) thus not using an alias.
