According to Apple owner Steve Jobs, the iPod Touch is "the best portable device for playing games." With that, writer Thord Daniel Hedengren of Gigaom deconstructs the arguments for and against why Apple could and could not overthrow the DS and PSP of their respective positions as leaders of the portable gaming world.

What do you think? Is the Touch just as worthy?

Using the touch and the iPhone, Apple hopes to do battle with the Nintendo DS and PSP. But it’s a battle they will likely lose, for two reasons: One, the hardware isn’t optimized for gaming, no matter what Jobs says; and two, Apple lacks any killer apps when it comes to games.

These are uncharted waters for Apple, a company that hasn’t historically been game-friendly.

That is a load of crap. It just depends what games are on it. Besides, isn't an iPod for MUSIC?

The iPod Touch can hardly compare. Nintendo and Sony live for making amazing games... Jobs can't just steal those games and put them on his iPod, and then call his iPod "the greetes gayming devies evar" just because it has some games on it.

I would say no because in my opinion the ds beats them all. Also Nintendo and Sony make real "games" not just these little games you play when your bored.

And yet the Iphone and Ipod touch has better specs and graphics then the DS. So I think it can, people never or hasn't still given the PSP its proper respect it deserves.

Specs and graphics DO NOT make a video game. Play some old fashioned Mario, Sonic, and Megaman, and come back tomorrow.

Games like Grand Theft Auto would Flourish on the iPhone then DS.

Again I wasn't saying 100% matter, but it still does in the grand scheme of things in THIS generation.

I've played those games before Capn, don't think Im just some newbie playing video games. Been playing games since I was 6 years old.

The iPod cannot beat the DS and PSP. It is, after all, a music player. Maybe some games can succeed, but I bet money it cannot beat out both the DS and PSP. BS.
