In a letter about reviewing Dead Space, at the top and in the largest text were the words "FEATURING STRATEGIC DISMEMBERMENT". Basically, that means throughout the game, you'll be cutting off monsters like it's nobody's business and it looks like EA - the developer and publisher of the game - wouldn't want to have it any other way.

Does anything about the above image strike anyone as odd? Amusing? Delightfully twisted perhaps?

I hope they dont mean that this is their prominent feature. I dont want them offering a horror game tarred by EA's blatent shithole ideas.

Have you even seen this game, the game has turned heads throughout the industry as being a seriously good game that is literally scary, the gameplay alone the dismemberment works because you have to stop them, death blows won't kill all creatures as some won't have visible heads, i mean this game is for the thinking gamer it has so many puzzles and moments where the average gamer will be stopped and forced to slow down a bit, this is the anti noob game. And it's about damn time games have been getting too easy these days.

Yeh I have seen extensive amounts of videoes and trailers and whatnot. And call me a prick, but its still by EA. Im a little hesitant to see the games merits because of it. I do really hope its good though. Thats my opinion anyway, much to everyones differing Im sure.

Yeh the game looks scary from what we have seen, But different horror techniques affect different people. I just hope action doesnt take the lead and horror is plastered ontop.

    Who knows.

Yeah i personally think horror gameplay died once developers realised they had the tech to have more than 2 enemies on screen at once, they started to think "oh 50 enemies now thats scary" and it might be but i know personally i get so wrapped up in smashing heads i'm no longer scared.

Games like Doom 3, F.E.A.R and this are aiming to be scary as there are only a handful of enemies on screen, one enemy can be as scary as 500 if used right. It's like for arachnophobes what is scarier than a spider, simple knowing there is a spider in the room but you can no longer see it.

Horror has always been noise and vision orientated if you can hear the enemy and not see it even the most hardened gamers start getting spooked and that is Dead Space all over.
