People at first laughed at the possibility of the iPhone becoming a major hand held gaming console, but now fears are becoming a little more real.

The article lists how the iPhone is, in simplicity, a combination of the DS (touch screen) and Wii (motion sensitivity) with even more to offer. It talks about the constant ups the iPhone is experiencing, while the DS is "looking a little weary"

Apple have tried and succeeded in other markets, will this be one more trophy to the belt?

The iPod Touch combines the touch-sensitive screen of a Nintendo DS with the motion sensitivity of the Nintendo Wii. Now add the ability to pour fresh games into the system at the touch of a button. Are you ready to switch?

I love my iPod but it won't replace my DS as a mobile gaming platform.

The iPhone is a complete waste of time. Can people stop trying to merge everything in one, and instead try to live with what they have? It's good to keep things separate. I'd rather play games on one thing without being interrupted by telephone calls or text messages or LEAST OF ALL warnings that my battery is about to die. Sheesh. Does anyone ever think of that at all? Battery life? I wonder, if they mixed together an epic computer, Wii, Playstation, DS, internetz, telephone, MP3 player, DVD/Blu-Ray player, into one tiny portable device which SOMEHOW has a HUGE SCREEN (somehow).. would it even be possible to make a portable power source powerful enough to run all that? Geez :\ A rant.. but I'm annoyed :\
IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE BLUETOOTH --falls over and twitches--

"...instead try to live with what they have"

Why develop cars when a horse and cart is fine, right?

The Android has a far better chance at threatening the handheld market than the iPhone could ever dream.

Among the first homebrewed things on the Android will probably be an NES emulator.

These crazy little challenges people make for themselves can be quite disturbing if proved wrong. xD

But yeah, there's no way that the iPhone would be able to be the DS in terms of gaming. Damn, phones just aren't phones these days, eh? The iPhone is a good product, but meh, expensive to say the least.

I think of it like this. The DS is solely a gaming handheld, whilst the iPhone is split in variety. If you're focusing on one thing, you're bound to do better with it than someone engaging in multiple activities at once. Like Flash vs Superman in a race. xD Flash (depending on who it is behind the mask), would win.

Yes cause everyone who commented on this article truly knows that iPhone is really that inferior.

Fact is iPhone has some of the best technology in there to really compete with the DS. You may think its impossible, it may not fully beat the DS, but I can't say the DS is better. Look at the PSP, the first handheld that isn't Nintendo made thats actually very successful and giving some great competition on the handheld market. I believe the iPhone will be able to be a great handheld system if more devs makes games for it.

How about if Apple created something like iTeleport? That would get me interested.

But Cruxis is right, if that happens I will eat a sheep.

i have the iPhone and have hacked it but it will never beat the DS it just dosnt cut it. The iphone is an over-rated phone. I really don't think of it as the best phone out there as other's say at ma school, but it is a good phone.

I would say I like my ds better than I would an iPhone. Ive heard bad things about them and there realy seems nothing at all bad about the ds to me. They are just great.

Well I don't see the iPhone ever surpassing the likes of the Nintendo DS, it's just an interesting, albeit comical article. You can see where they're coming from but it's never going to do what they say.

Also, eventually we'll have the next hand held up from the Nintendo DS which is sure to be a mind blower.

The iPhone will never be as great as the DS, that's for sure, it is an interesting concept.

    Hellz No. No good.
C'mon guys, The DS if you havent noticed is the console with the most sales. no other handheld. including PSP beasts DS. Cause Sony is Dying. YES!
Microsoft and NIntendo are doing Very well. I know for a fact that Nintendo may seem waek now, but I know they have some tricks up their sleeves...

      HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

      Sony is dying. That's funny.

No they're not, and everyone with half a brain could figure that one out.

Pokemon is great and all, but if I wanted that game i'd probably go get a DS. But that has nothing to do with this article.

^^^ Sony is not dying! Take that back

The iPhone and DS are so very different, there's no way (in my opinion) that you can actually compare them without having to ignore some very obvious points like:
    • The DS cannot make phone calls
    • The iPhone was not designed as a gaming console
    • The Ds is fugly compared to the iPhone.
