Sigh, remember back in the day when you and your buddies could hook up your Nintendo 64 during vacation bible school and play Goldeneye until all hours of the evening?

It seems with the rise of the internet - this is becoming less and less of a commonplace. Now you are meeting up online with people from other countries, let alone your friends.

And with the rise of how competitive gaming is becoming, you don't want to share any of your precious 1080p screen space.

Gone are the days where inviting your friends over for a four player game, instead it’s seeming as if you have to arrange the time you all will meet up online, even though you all stay within the same vicinity of one another. I understand the importance of online, with such games supporting clan structures and tournaments and allowing players to compete against others from around the world. However, it seems as if split screen is getting the shit end of the stick nowadays. Only a few games still implement split screen, and do so correctly, Halo 3 being one of them. Granted I’m not a fan of Halo, I applaud their implementation of split screen, allowing not only four players to play at the same time but also allowing you to take your buddies online to compete with others. This makes it more entertaining, by making it to where you’re not just playing against yourselves but with more human controlled players, creating more challenging and intriguing experiences. But it seems as if other games are not taking advantage of what’s possible. It seems as if games nowadays lack the features of a fun split screen experience that was once offered to them in the olden days. Giving players generic game modes, limited character choices, limited features in general. Most games that offer split screen just are not nearly as fun as once before.

Vacation bible school? Haha, I don't think I remember that part.

But I certainly remember the good old days of playing split-screen GoldenEye 007 mulitplayer with my family and friends. Ah, life was so much simpler back then.

Split Screen is dying and Screen Watching killed it. Nothing is more worse than a perfect stealth kill being ruined by Screen Watching.

if timesplitters 4 doesn't have split screen, that's the final nail in the coffin as far as i'm concerned.

Yes, it's dying, but it's making the way for online gaming that doesn't take up the whole screen for 4 different players, so I consider it a win.

Gamers changed. I remember back in the day playing those games and loving split screen. These days whenever I play with my friends it's all about "the winning" factor and they all screen shark when playing lan or whatnot. I think it's a disgrace these days what gamers will resort to, rather than just enjoying themselves.

I was never fond with split screen tbh, it was always too small and I end up dying alot. But I can see why some like it.

Let's get same screen local co-op back! Who needs Split Screen if you're all on the same screen and in the same room as well?

I'd like to see a multiplayer co-op in the style of Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance to come to the 360. Yeah there's Ultimate Alliance, but nothing beats a good RPG for co-op.

If split screen dies, let's have local multi-player co-op.
