No, it's not
another article about casual gaming. This article is concerning a blog by Iran White which puts forth an interesting notion.
A lot of people were recently upset by the announcement the brand new Nintendo DSi
won't be in America until 2009. This has caused an upset as Japan certainly won't be waiting that long. Statistics have shown though that one in every two houses situated in Japan contains a Nintendo DS! Not to mention decreasing sales of the console, so it's pretty safe to release a new one. This does not extend to America, however, because of the fact sales are still strong.
Similarly, this blog brings up the discussion of whether we, as the consumers, should stop purchasing the Nintendo Wii. Pretty much everyone has heard lately that we may be seeing a
new Wii in the near future... well 2011 anyway. So the idea is if we stop buying it, will Nintendo bring it out sooner?
The article discusses how the Nintendo Wii was lacking in technology, so it would be a good time to upgrade. Not to mention we know that Sony is already working on a
new console and that Microsoft will more than likely be releasing one around the same time also.
At the current rate though, America may have to wait patiently for a long time. The Nintendo Wii is expected to be in the top 5 Christmas presents this year... again! Nintendo also produces 700,000 Wii consoles for the USA every month! At this rate there really is no point to consider giving them a new Wii. Japan sales should drop eventually, but due to the release of new games such as
Monster Hunter 3 and little spikes now and there it won't be in the near future.
The one flaw in this plan is that people can't wait. As the article's author put it, "when I ask myself would I be o.k. with waiting until 2011 if I hadn't already bought one, my answer is a resounding No."
He wraps up by saying it's a very clever marketing pitch by Nintendo, which of course should be expected. America's Wii sales don't look to decrease any time soon and as such, they won't be seeing the Nintendo Wii HD any time soon either.
thats just like me saying that Halo 3 is the only game 360 has and.....uhmmm....little big planet is the only game PS3 has.
there are plenty of hardcore games out/coming out for wii.
The Wii is lacking in what other consoles have, and the other consoles are lacking in what the wii has.
in any case, i know, as a complete Nintendo lover, i WILL be buying both these systems. i still need to find a job to get a 360, and the new PSP 3k series (havent owned a PSP yet, new version and price drop seems like the best time)
And what exactly does the Wii have that the other consoles don't? Motion sensitivity? Give me a break, the Wii in itself may be an excellent money maker for Nintendo. But it has so much shovelware it makes the Atari 2600 look like a AAA-maker. It simply isn't a hardcore console.
Zelda, Metroid Prime, Zak and Wiki.
What exactly is so mediocre about them?
Also yes I agree with the article 100%.
Show me any supporting quotes of me in the past week, month or possible this year where I've stated anything fanboyish? In fact I can tell you I have not said anything of the sort. Sure maybe last year when I was little to craze on the PS3 front, but I've learned from then.
You are a fanboy simply from the replies you've shown in the last few articles stating how bad the Wii is making the market. And Paper mario dude the same. You two have no leg to stand on.
There's a difference between being a fanboy and actually using common sense, you might want to try that sometime. I've posted in one perhaps two other Wii article(s) over the past few months and in both criticized you for being an idiot (well nothing really new for you), not sure how that equates to me being a fanboy or not having a case in this particular argument.
Hahaha no you didn't, you just made your self look like an idiot. One in particular was the Wii Music review by sarcastic gamer which was funny. Now after watching the Wii Music trailers I have to agree with that funny joke of a review.
seriously if nintendo tries 2 sell it 4 more than $350 they are *bleep*ed up
Wario land Shake it, The Conduit, and Fatal Frame 4 are also more hardcore games.... ask Sonic Flash or AkariX for the "CORE Wii Games" thread, there is a large list there.
Atari 2600 is one of the greatest systems made, and had the longest life span, but it is, in no means hardcore...there wasn't EVEN a hardcore gamer back then, the only "hardcore gamer" i recall was whoever could beat the last level of space invaders or complete Dr.Mario on highest dificulty.
if Nintendo does what everyone else is doing, including HD and a HDD, $350 is a good price,
I used motion sensitivity as an example to prove to you that the Wii has nothing that the other consoles do not.
I also used the Atari 2600 as an example of a system built around shovelware, yes it was a good console. But it has hundreds of horrible games being shot out of companies to jump on the gravy train, the over-abundance kind...you know..crashed the industry.
I also love how out of the 6 titles mentioned, only two would be considered good, two aren't even out yet, one is a child's game and in the case of Wario Land, a fine example of mediocre shovelware I mentioned earlier. Thanks for proving my point.
As for you saying hardcore gamers didn't exist, tell that to Billy Mitchell.
Nice try, though.
Though I see the sixaxis to be a tad unnecessary, that's only because I hate motion control in general and don't find it any better in application on the Wii. Overall the sixaxis does as its intended and I haven't had control issues, but it just isn't really that useful.
Wii games are focusing far too much on playing around with motion control without actually making a game that has some semblance of "deep" gameplay or story. Really, those that are out there are few and far between.
