Should games be turned into movies?

SlapStic.com asked several members of the N4G community their opinions on movie adaptations of video games, and whether or not they should even exist. The community responds with a variety of interesting opinions, and SlapStic owner Ryan Rigney throws in his own opinion to the mix.
"There's nothing wrong with games to film adaptation. I have nothing against them, to be honest, regardless of their reputation for being complete rubbish. If a film director feels they can manage a videogame flick, then more power to that person.

However, they must keep in mind that they have a good chance of ruining their own reputation should the movie be unsuccessful.

I must agree, you do raise a good point when you mention that video games have reached a level where they can host their own cinematography. A perfect example of that is Metal Gear Solid 4. Hideo Kojima is a mastermind when it comes to machinima."

I personally think they turn out really well, for example the Final Fantasy movies. I'd actually like to see a lot more video games turned into movies. Nice article. ;3

Depends on how the source material is treated, how much money is put behind production, and more importantly, who writes the script and directs.

Many games would make great films - it is about execution, funding and who is responsible for that execution.

As long as the movie is actually good and not shit, I'd say sure.
