If you've recently read IGN's Review for Saints Row 2 (and at this point, I should remind you that this is the very same site that gave GTAIV 10/10) you may have spotted the sentence:

quote
The only small detail that was left out seems to be trophies for the PS3 fans of the world.
which inevitably created a lot of confusion around as to whether or not the PS3 version of the game will have trophies or not, especially after Volition previously said that Sony are pushing them to add unique trophies and confirmed that they would do just that...

So will the final version of the game have trophies, or were IGN accurate with their review (doubtful)... well if a post from a Volition moderator is anything to go by... it will have trophies, so be rest assured. IGN is simply mistaken.

What does IGN giving GTA a 10 matter?

      BlackLabel Oct 12, 08
They went with the hype like every other reviewer on the planet, gaming is about fun and the keyword in IGN's review of Saints Row 2 was fun which should make it a 10/10 regardless of glitches as GTA IV was far from flawless it had glitches and it wasn't fun, Saints Row 2 is the opposite... IGN are often very biased even though personally the only reason GTA IV got a 10/10 was because any site that didn't give it that score would have been lynched by the sad and pathetic GTA fanboys.

Maybe they really really enjoyed it? I know I did.

And it's not as if Saints Row isn't hyped.

Enjoy GTAIV? Many people I've spoken to have hated either the online or offline modes, I can't think of anyone that actually enjoyed both modes.

I thought they were both great.

GTAIV though it was good, was no where as good as the the reviews made them out to be. And the most hypocritical thing you'll find is that if you see the AU Saints Row 2 review, they actually say how GTAIV was crap (yet they STILL gave it 10/10). I refuse to believe that every single reviewer of GTAIV loved the game, whilst everyone else, didn't like it all that in comparison to past GTA's.

Thus, I believe that IGN is either:

      A) Trying to balance out GTAIV's score by giving this game a lower score (maybe it's SR2 that should be 9.5/10 and GTAIV 8.5/10...)
      B) Just naturally biased towards GTAIV (i.e. GTA Fan boys) and so they call this game a "GTA-Wannabe" and the likes.
      C) All of the above.

Don't listen to Krunal and BlackLabel here. The reason why it got tens was cause it did something that no other game has done in the genre. Also they said GTA couldn't have been improved any other way then what GTA4 did. Basically meaning the leap GTA4 did was impressive and it improved alot in a beneficial way.

While hype play a small role with fanboys, im sure it had nothing to do with the scores.

GTAIV is extremely overrated and people need to come to terms with the fact that their beloved Rockstar let them down with the last installment.

IGN must be trying to compensate for this slightly by writing what they did.

Yes but it leads me to think... did they give it the score that the game deserved, or what?

It was actually better than I expected it to be. The gameplay and story were amazing. Sure there was no replay value but how many games honestly have that other than just starting the game over? It was almost 30 *bleep*ing hours long.

Nah, there's no way GTAIV deserved 10/10. There were faults with it, many new things that the players didnt agree with. They just wanted it to seem that good so the sales rates would shoot sky high. The same thing happened with GTV San Angreas. Not worth the score tbh.

    Ah well, there's always televison

I agree with you on the GTAIV matter, but wholely disagree with GTA:SA. Though there were some things which I found quite annoying in that game (the whole eating thing), it was done in a way, which meant that I didn't HAVE to do that all the time (I usually ate once every 10 hours of gaming or so).

GTAIV... I just didn't feel like creating any bit of mayhem, unlike GTAIII where I'd go onto a roof top and start sniping... Plus no tank, so couldn't really blow up cars... wait does Saints Row 2 have tanks or not? Because if it doesn't that's an instant 0.1 rating removed

Saints Row 2 looks like the sort of game that would have tanks...

I hope they have tanks. That was one of the things I missed the most in GTAIV. Enough to have knocked off 5/10 marks from the score itself lol

San Andreas was worth it's score. GTA IV wasn't.

Oh boy. So many people say GTA IV didn't deserve it's scores and didn't live up to the hype like that's a fact. I love GTA IV. It seems like almost every time someone complains about it, it is because it wasn't the game they were expecting it to be or it wasn't the game they wanted it to be. GTA IV is an amazing game. I bet if it didn't carry the Grand Theft Auto title, people's opinions would be wildly different.

The original Saints Row was more fun than GTA4 was. GTA4 while it broke new ground and revolutionized video games, it ruined GTA.
