The United Kingdom has a rich and robust history of software development - bedroom coders and small shops produced some of the most graphically advanced games for primitive systems like the ZX Spectrum and the Commodore 64, and modern studios like Rockstar North are responsible for some of today's biggest hits. One developer that has always led the way on the British Isles is Rare. Founded in 1982 by the brothers Tim and Chris Stamper, the wee company produced games as fast as they could for a number of platforms.
