SlapStic.com editor Matthew Curtis shares his feelings on the Call of Duty: World at War beta, and why he feels that the full game will be a huge disappointment for everyone who loved CoD4.

Like 12 million other people, I bought CoD4. I loved the game, and invested hundreds of hours of my time in it. When Call of Duty: World at War was announced I was thrilled, until I found out who was developing it. Unlike Infinity Ward, Treyarch (developers of the disastrous CoD3) cannot make a Call of Duty game. To get around this problematic issue, they decided to make CoD4 with a World War II skin. Now granted, this IS only the beta, but in truth, how much will change between now and November 11? Those who pre-ordered Team Fortress 2 were playing the beta a month in advance, and didn’t notice the difference when the full game was released.

I agree with this article. The beta sucks, and so will the game.

I fail to understand how this is a "Reskin" of CoD4. If the author had not started on CoD4, he may realize: CoD2 (and to an extent CoD3)are eerily the same. For example The "ping" of a headshot online, The symbols for who was killied by what, the tick marks for shooting someone, and SOME reload animations are simalar. So no , CoD4 did not invent all of those. Oh and it is perfectly fine for a SAS trooper to be walking around with a M14, but a German infantryman cannot? Please , I implore you play CoD2 and 3 before assuming that CoD4 is Jesus.

"A yellow "+10" popped up, just as in Call of Duty 4, and with the same font. Even the engine is the same,"

Idiot, Its the still COD not a whole different game.
If something worked in the PAST cod game they are going to put it in the NEW cod game.

Its not a totally different type of game, your asking too much of it to be different.

Cod 4 was just cod 2 with a modern skin and better multilayer, yet your hailing that like god.

"However, when I got my first kill (surprisingly easy in this game)"
I don't remember getting kills in cod 4 to be "Hard to get"
    either.

"I quickly ran out of ammunition on my primary weapon, and switched to my secondary, which turned out to be a Nambu pistol. Thats right. The World War II German army is running around with Japanese guns. "
So what? Its a game, Last time I checked they were designed for fun and not for military accuracy.
and why is it unrealistic, Japan was an ally of Germany during WW2, it is plausible that they shared weaponry, just like the US and the British did.

"means that any sort of organized multilayer will be all but impossible."
I don't remember much organization in COD 4 either, mostly people just ran around shooting anything that moved.

Your being FAR to harsh on this game and you are being SERIOUSLY biased towards COD 4, notably acknowledging that some problems in COD5 are present in COD 4 but then you go on and try to come up with some sort of an excuse for COD 4.

I am in the beta also, Its a great game, of course like he mentioned its similar to cod 4. And if your wondering why, its because its COD 5 THE SEQUEL TO COD 4. Of course, he finds it hard to grasps this concept.

I never liked COD4 too much. It was good and everything, but there was no organisation online. There was no encouragement to work as a team. And then of course there was the leave it or do it ten times over factor.

I don't think people should Knock this one before it even gets out. Yes, they did WWII again. But they changed stuff up this time. And complaining about the engine is *bleep*. Of course they used the same engine. In fact, I think they are using an enhanced version of the COD4 engine.

I think the author might be finding the games just a little too much for him, so he's dissing it instead. Any new game based on a franchise - read continuation of an existing "theme" is bound to have similarities, if not exactly the same sequences of styles in some areas.

It's a WWII game, based around areas we have not seen in games on this gen yet, so many will be comparing it to games of the current gen, and thinking it should be going FORWARD into WWIII, not back into WWII. Well history dictates what is real and what is not, and there are many areas of the unfortunate exploits of war many of you have never even heard of, and been lucky enough to miss out on entirely.

So when developers look at what they wish to turn into a game, they look at what has been, and try and showcase that to tel a story of just how terrible it was then, and hopefully put some level of education into those who play it.

Stop being so god-damn picky, play the GAMES for what they ARE - not what they are NOT. The only person that you're doing an injustice is yourself by shutting yourself off from experiences that would hopefully broaden your outlook and further your experience in LIFE.

Plus have some "FUN" along the way.

Stop calling it COD5. COD5 will probably be released later, this is CODWAW, just another version of COD4.

It's CoD5. CoD6 is already in development by Infinity Ward.

That's kinda stupid of them to make a side game using the same mechanics yet calling it a sequel.
