The big dashboard upgrade coming November 19 to all Xbox 360 owners will allow gamers to play their games more quickly and without the DVD. Stephen Totilo examines the load times, and if the 6 or 7 gb investment in hard drive space is really worth it.

People keep asking me if doing the installation is worth the trouble. Are loading times that much better?

I tested Microsoft's claim on four games, using my NXE-enabled 360. Above, you can watch the initial loading for "Grand Theft Auto IV," DVD vs Hard Drive. After the jump, check out loading comparisons for "Fable II" and "Gears of War."

...Each of the games took about 11 minutes to install and required between 6.6 and 6.8GB. It shaved off about nine to 15 seconds off the initial load times.Think it's worth it?

I think it will be worth it just quiet the 360 down a bit. I plan on using this feature even though I only have a 20GB HDD, I'll just install the one game I'll be playing the most over the next month, and then delete it and install another game when I'm done with it.

OMG this has to be the most simplest and logical thing I ever read from someone about installing games. Why is it that PS3 owners(not all) are butthurt over this yet someone who has a 360 makes the same point some of us, including me, for a long time now wow?

The only point id see in ever doing this is if you were going to hand a game back XD, coming to think of it wont this install thing totally rape game sales if you can just pass a game around all your mates to install?

No, You still need the disk in the console to play it off your hard drive.
It just wont spin the disk, But you need it in your xbox.

You still need the disc. You don't think Microsoft would make it that easy to pirate games do you?
