New Challenger: 3 Reasons Why Gaming Will Destroy Itself Part 1
9 hours 41 mins ago
Video game ratings are regulated in the United States by the federal government. With the presidential elections in the US coming tomorrow, you could be seeing some changes in how the ratings system on video games is done. With Obama last playing Pong, and McCain never playing a game (nor can he even check his e-mail, check article for video), almost anything can happen.
While McCain has spoken out against harmful media as a whole, Obama has gone as far as to say that the ESRBs rating system needs improvement, but did not offer details as to how. In a response to the question of keeping media companies from marketing and pushing inappropriate content to children (posed by Kotaku in the heat of the primaries) Obama stated, I would call upon the video game industry to give parents better information about programs and video games by improving the voluntary rating system we currently have. Broadcasters and video game producers should take it upon themselves to improve this system to include easier to find and easier to understand descriptions of exactly what kind of content is included.
