Did Nintendo Screw Up By Releasing Brawl With A Flawed Online Experience?

Dark Arcanine | November 04, 2008 | Blog | Wii
Iran White of wiirincontrol.com discusses how Super Smash Bros. Brawl was a big improvement, but it's not perfect. He outlines how it is flawed, the online experience being a disappointment.

The idea was what was said to be lacking in the last edition of the series. It would add massive reply value, along with the obvious that you could take on anyone around the world.

So what brings it down? It's constantly plagued by lag, you're a lucky gamer when you have a lag-free match with friends. This can't be fixed with a patch either, unlike other games.

This article did have an underlying flavour though. The author took the opportunity to point the finger at Nintendo and talk about how they've let down the consumer, only wanting the money.

So in conclusion it's got the stuff for game of the year and high purchases, but it wasn't perfect.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that's all Nintendo really cares about. Otherwise they would've fixed this Friend Codes bullshit a while ago.

But then our children wouldn't be safe from online predators who could put bad words in their taunts.

I really hate the lag, I got an awesome connection so I wouldn't have to experience slowdown, yet it occurs anyway in Brawl.

Considering Brawl's online capabilities were supposed to be one of the game's highlights, yes, Nintendo stuffed up bad.

Ironic how its not any different than what Nintendo is currently doing to most games; Fatal Frame 4 for example.

My god, this game could have been A-M-A-Z-I-N-G instead it turned out to be a utter pile of crap.
Story mode was insanely long as repetitive and the online just turned out to be a stupid lagfest. O and seriously nintendo, cut this 'Friend Codes' BS. Get it together and make a DECENT online experience, some microphones would be nice for a start =|

I have to disagree, Brawl wasn't at all anything special. Hell Melee was loads better and fun then brawl.

Dude, why are people saying Nintendo stuffed up?

Stuffed? Can you not say "screwed" like the article?

Oh yeah, YES. They screwed up very badly. I could only play 1 on 1 lag free, and that's pretty unacceptable.

Yeah, it wasnt very good. But thinking about the game, it was probably hard. FF Fanatic, WiiSpeak is on the way. And brawl, if youre a nintendo fan IS loads of fun. waay more to mess around with.
Heck, in my frined group, I have 3 sony fans, 1 microsoft and 1 nintendo, which is me.
Mario Kart Wii had AWESOME wifi.
