Editorial: Cliff Bleszinski Is Ruining Gears Of War 2

A short editorial about the possibility of Cliff Bleszinski being overkill to Gears of War 2's over-hyped promotional efforts. The author compares Cliff to Paris Hilton and Tom Cruise.

Just as Tom Cruise became weird and embarrassing, Cliffy B. has managed to emulate Tom’s annoying and obtuse approach to product promotion. Plain and simple, these antics aren’t going to help sell Gears of War 2. The game was already poised to break records, and it’s already been promoted enough. What Cliff is doing will only prove to be overkill for an already over-hyped game.

      Can't forget Fable II, every time Molyneux opened his mouth it was more hype.

      Hell, even Fallout 3 was far more hyped than Gears.      ]

    Gears 2 wasn't overhyped. It met and exceeded my already high expectations.

      It was the convoy stage, wasn'tit... your jaw it the ground. It is ok, you can admit it... after the tutorial right... seeing the armies roll out... GLORIOUS!

    The only hype I really saw about Gears of War 2 was from MICROSOFT, rather than Epic Games. Microsoft promoted it quite heavily in comparison to its other christmas titles but Gow2 still seemed quite calm and steady. It wasnt hyped like Halo3 or MGS4, and its a better title for it.

    Also, Cliff Bleszinski did a fantastic job. Hes passionate and dedicated and I'd expect him to promote a bloody game he wants people to experience. Oh well, its the writers opinion. Thats fine. I for one, certainly do not share his view.

    How can Metal Gear Solid 4 be over-hyped? I mean if anything it exceeded most of mine and every MGS fan and fanboys expectations.

    Had you state Grand Theft Auto 4, then maybe I'd see your(not anyone specific, just in general) point.

      I wasn't talking about if it met hype or not, I was talking about it not being as hyped up as those games.

        Actually, while I did state over-hyped I don't see how it was that hyped up. Remember it was only hyped for certain people and personally Kojima was somewhat stating how good the game was. Also MGS4 Matched the hype it did get and is deserving of it. Its the best Exclusive game for the PS3 still to this date. It was massive and should be GOTY. Gears was hyped alot due to the success of Gears 1 and pretty much cliff hyping the game up in some ways bashing others, which as the article says, ruining it for his game. Which I agree with the article to an extent.

          As difficult as as that was to understand, I gathered the point you were trying to make is Gears hype > MGS4 hype..? You really are a lost cause if you think Gears got more hype than MGS4.


          And I preferred Uncharted tbh.

          No, I said that MGS4 didn't get that much hype as slumpy is making it believed. While there could have a small margin of hype for MGS4 then GoW2, its basically equal.

          Also I stated that Kojima was the only one really talking about how awesome the game was. The gamers or fans didn't at all make any hype for it in comparison to fans and fanboys raving on about how gears 2 will obliterate or something to that effect to R2.

          Then eventually I stated the small amount of hype it did get was actually deserving of it. LBP is fine where its at, he should have said Grand Theft Auto 4, since that got hyped and overhyped light years beyond MGS4. And if he was using it as an exclusive, then it was a poor choice anyway. MotorStorm or Haze should replace it.

    the only thing bad i heard about this game is the cheesy script but i haven't played it
    i have to wait till i get my xbox back.

    Actually im in the process of buying one.

    I never said MGS4 didn't get hyped, just not as much as Slumpy is exaggerating it tbh.

    Also I don't see what me buying Gears 2 have to do with anything? Care to elaborate?

      Your just rambling on about nothing, which I'm sorry to say is quite consistent in your posts. You just pick out random parts from peoples posts and then badger on about how you disagree and you usually misread things or take them out of context.

        I can't speak for others, but when I read your original post, I could have sworn you was making the hype of MGS4 exaggerated as in overkill. But thats me, and im not rambling on for nothing. I Interpreted that way. If that wasn't what you meant then fine, fair enough. However, with that said, I doubt MGS4 has any huge amount of hype though. It had some yes, but mostly due to Kojima himself similar to Cliff B with Gears 2, the only difference is, Kojima isn't trash talking other games.

          The reason I stated overkill is because that what is says in the article, Read it.

      How exactly can you be in the process of buying Gears 2? Did you stop half-way to the counter and get out your phone to post that comment?

      I didn't say that you said MGS4 wasn't hyped. I said your idea of the level of hype it received is way off the mark.

      You wouldn't know if the game is overhyped or not if you haven't bought (or rented) it. To be fair though, in 90% of your comments you don't know what you're talking about.
