With 2008 coming to close, many are wondering - "What console had the best exclusives", of course the true answer to that is based on what kind of games you like, and in many cases, what console you own, however the method which SecondStoryGamer use isn't a bad one at all.

Taking the Metascore Ratings of the exclusive games, and then working out it's average. Note that all results are as at November 20th

For gamers, the new year usually begins after mid-November and this year’s no different; pretty much all major console exclusives have been released. So, this is the first time that we can actually look back at 2008 and see which console had the best exclusives for the year - the PS3, Xbox 360, or Wii.

Ok what the heck is Lips? And why is Infinite Undiscovery on the list? I was under the impression that IU was one of the most hated games on the 360 this year.

On the other hand they included Haze and Wii Music for the others so it balances out at least.

I'd probably have picked the top 10 highest ranking exclusive games that were released in 2008, but as far as I understand it, a lot of people loved IU. In fact, it's come up quite a few times in discussions with people saying that they loved it regardless of the score that it got.

My friend is totally obsessed with that game. Joked that he's gotten more of a Gamerscore boost from it than Orange Box.

Alright? The metacritic score was 68. That's as good as critically panned. The user score was only 70.

Perhpas hated was a bit to strong. But it was definitely a love hate sort of thing with that game. But on top of the IU wasn't even one of the biggest or most hyped games on the 360. It was just sort of there. I can understand including Haze since it was hyped to death and then ended up sucking.

But the lists should have some sort of conformity. Like the 10 most hyped games on each console. Or the 10 highest scoring. These lists just seem like they picked 10 random games from each console. Which is fine in the respect that it give a random sampling of what is available on the console without seeming to show a personal bias. And it helps that they came out pretty even. But the choices seem a bit suspect and leave plenty of room for argument.

They sure did pick a few horrid games for this list. Where's Lost Odyssey (replace IU) and Super Mario Galaxy?
    • 1
      Koloth Nov 21, 08
Galaxy was probably disqualified as an 07 title since it released before November 20th 07.

Oh, so it just lost the cut. I miscalculated that game, because I got it in January, but I still think that LO is better to mention than IU.

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl...
    Wii Music...
    Mario Kart Wii...
    Animal Crossing City Folk....
Hrrmmm such a hard decision for me.

Fable 2 and Gears of War 2.

That wasn't enough to get Microsoft over the line?

Only decent game that came out for PS3 ALL YEAR was Little Big Planet for gods sake -_-

Are you bullshitting me? I personally thought MGS4 was better than any game I've played on any of the nex gen consoles. And Resistance 2 was an awesome game.

MGS4 Sucked if youre a fan of the series like me. Ive played all the MGS games. 4 was probably my third least favorite.

I'm a huge fan of the series, and I loved MGS4. Your statement makes no sense, especially since it's not backed up in the least bit.

If anything, MGS4 should 'suck' for those who haven't played the series at all, though from what I witnessed, it only brought in more fans.

Cut it with the flamings guys.... that was his Opinion, and obviously he is biased towards the XBOX360, and we all know that we're prone to be biased to the console we own if we only own one...

If you think LBP was better then MGS4, then you don't deserve a console.
      • 2
        Koloth Nov 22, 08
Actually LBP scored higher than MGS 4, for the record.

And no Fable 2 and GoW2 wasn't enough to get the 360 over the line. Fable 2 scored an 89 mostly because reviewers felt is was more of the same. And GoW got a 93 good but not great. But MGS4 and LBP scored higher with a 94 and 95 respectively. Hell SSBB and World of Goo both scored higher than Fable 2 and GoW2.

          Red 9 Nov 22, 08
MGS4 was kind of niche because of the plot, and LBP was open to grander audience. So that's understandable that LBP scored higher, albeit by one single point.

1, 2 percent higher makes them great games and gow and fable 2 not?

          Red 9 Nov 23, 08
That's what I was wondering too. Kinda like how I thought Ace Combat was a huge flagship title for PS2, even if they never scored above 90.

          Koloth Nov 23, 08
I didn't say Fable 2 and GoW2 were bad. Nor did I say MGS4 and LBP were better.

Aussie asked why they weren't enough to push the 360 over. And the reason was because their combined scores were lower than the PS3's top two games combined scores. In fact they were lower than the Wii's top two games score as well. It is just that the lowest scoring games on the lists scored higher overall on the PS3 and lowest on the Wii. It is simple math and has absolutely nothing to do with how I personally feel about any of the games.

    double wtf? Isn't that DLC?

It's a standalone game in the vein of a DLC title.

Then Braid-93% should've been added to even it out, then the 360 would've won :-/.

I find this list totally a bunch of bullshit. Not a great list of games and very biased. I personally think 360 should switch places with PS3, and Wii a point or two higher. Only cause I still think the 360 had a few more games better then PS3. My post is very unbiased.

Well the number of exclusive yet awesome games decreases with time, i don't think this kind of lists is necessary, i'd rather get un-exclusives if they are better, consoles are games that are made to have fun after all. Call me naive but console wars shouldn't exist.

      Red 9 Nov 30, 08
More like exclusive yet awesome games for PS3 declining. The 360 hasn't had a problem supplying exclusives that are great. We just seem to be getting a lot that fall just short of greatness; there always seems to be something wrong that causes it to come just shy of hitting universal acclaim.

I can see why PS3 won. It has awesome games. Still, the list is rather awful. =(

    Linkerd101 Nov 30, 08
I really think the 360 sould have won that. People really forget about replay value these days. Thats why i still love the classiscs. I cant see myself playing Resistance 2 over and over agian.

He said 360 has more replayability, and that an example of the PS3's lack of replayability is R2. Not that I agree.

    ShadowJ Nov 30, 08
PS3 should win this as mostly everyone knows that 360 exclusives are ported to the PC or PS3, which in my books cuts the exclusive tag upon a game.

Hardly anything these days is exclusive, if a company can make a dime somehow, they will do it and regard the consequences later. Look at Beth Soft, they are shoving PS3 and Sony away for Microsoft bucks, then again god knows what Sony is playing out these days

      FinalFantasyFanaticc Nov 30, 08
I'm sorry but don't you mean that most PS3 exclusives go to 360?

Because hardly any of the 360's exclusives go to the PS3, only ones that i see that the 360 has lost were the ones that were set to be timed exclusives already.

      360 should have won this, it has a much bigger list of exclusives and the list of exclusives on the 360 are much better than that of the PS3s. We all know the scores on metacritic are complete bull anyway ; ;

And i'm not saying the PS3 isn't good, im currently enjoying MGS4 on it myself atm which so far is an amazing game.

Funny thing is, Take out Infinite Undiscovery and add Lost Odyssey instead and the 360 has already won it. Infinite Undiscovery was a horrible pick.

360 should have won this, it has a much bigger list of exclusives
Orly? If so care to list this much bigger list of exclusives? Cause last time I check the exclusive gap wasn't big, and since most people can't properly find a list of exclusives, good ones, its safe the say the whole "much bigger" exclusives was exaggerated by fanboys.

and the list of exclusives on the 360 are much better than that of the PS3s.
Well handful yes, but still the exclusive gap isn't as big and people are making it out to be not to mention it can be argued the PS3 has some top quality exclusives out there.

I agree with an exclusive being solely for the one platform. I don't own a 360 because most of the games I could possibly purchase get ported over to the PC anyway. Same can't be said for the PS3's exclusives.
