SlaStic.com contributor Carl Wheeler brings us his take on the current state of the PC industry, and how it has been affected by the gigantic elephant in what seems to be EVERYONE'S rooms, World of Warcraft.

First, I want to point out that the PC gaming industry is not dead, or dying. It's changing, perhaps, but multi-million dollar game sales (that aren't just casual games) prove that it's still going strong. In fact, I would argue that World of Warcraft is actually helping the PC gaming industry, even if it is ruining lives.

I seriously don't agree. A popular game on PC doesn't kill PC, neither does Runescape. I really don't understand people these days about it. Its completely exaggerating imo.

Ummmmm this particular article wasn't saying that. You have to read at least half way through the source article before you comment man LMAO

Oh I read part of it, but it wasn't going anywhere so I stopped and commented on the article title.

And clearly the title is misleading.

Clearly, you have issues with titles of articles. If you don't like misleading titles - which to you, is every *bleep*ing article on the site - try reading the article for a change, instead of a seven word summary in the title. Or, better yet, read the article no matter what the title says. It'll get you places, believe me.

The title is asking a question, no? I answered said question. I stated my opinion. If the article source stated PC gaming isn't dying as what Slumpy quoted(which I didn't really finishing reading it), then why the hell would the article title be "Is WoW killing PC gaming?" Wouldn't it be "WoW isn't killing PC gaming" that would be more sensible. Article titles are supposed to represent what the source means. Not completely be the opposite.
Oh and Capn please stop putting words in my mouth. I don't find every article title on here to be misleading, from all the articles i've commented and viewed and submitted, I only used it 5(including now) times from 200+ articles.

Stop exaggerating to the extremes. If you don't know how many times I've used it, then don't assume it. The one thing I hate is people voicing and assuming shit about me. Don't.

Assuming shit? It's obvious you don't read the articles you comment on.

Actually sometimes he says some fairly wise shit. Freaks me out. Haha.

Yes well I'm wise when I want to be, and if it calls it. Ameer, be quiet, please.
I do so read the articles I post on. The only times I don't when the article is filled with rapid fanboyism. Like this.

I didn't necessarily find that article fanboyistic. I'd complain about how you must not have read that article either, but it appears a lot of people didn't, so I'll just sum it up: the only things in the article are sales and advertising mistakes. It doesn't really have anything to do with the gameplay of the game. At least, for that article.

Meanwhile, there are other articles where there is fanboyism, and I'm glad we both have the decency to stay the Hell away from them.

There was nothing fanboyistic about the damn thing, read the actual article. I believe I'm going to start reading the first word of you posts and reply according to that from now on.

"There" what, ali3n? You didn't specify anything at all; if you're going to comment, at least put some thought into it.

... wait. There was more post than that? Whoops, excuse me.

Yeah it makes us fat and lazy. It's a good thing I'm immune to that. Well, the getting fat part anyway.

Hast thou forgotten of the hero's majestic act of feinting in front of a moose, for to save his princess? Forsooth, thy mind hath forgotten such acts we know as the Paladin's Super Awesome WoWzorz Move in Canada.

However, think about the amount of non-gamers, or at least non-PC gamers, who WoW has introduced to the PC as a gaming platform. I believe it to be more plausible that WoW has actually created more PC gamers, and that more people are now willing to purchase games for their computer.
I know a lot of WoW players (unfortunately), many of them were introduced to PC gaming thanks to WoW. However, they still haven't branched off into different games.

Imo, WoW is killing the gamers not PC gaming. It is killing the gamer however because it is making whomever plays it addicted to the computer and on it all hours of the night. Not only the lazy factor, but the weight issue as well. If someone sits at a computer for all of their free time and they just sit and eat what do you think is going to happen? WoW is a good game in general, just not when its overused.

It's a good thing you added that last statement in there, or else I would have had to say you were overgeneralizing. I know many people, both through the Internet and in real life, who play WoW, and while they may take a few days off of work every now and then when an expansion is released to beat it, they take it as what it is: a form of entertainment.

As for PC gaming itself, it's been dying due to more money being in console and handheld gaming because many people can't afford high end gaming machines to run games like Bioshock and Crysis, but can still afford a console like the PS3 which likely rivals or in many cases even outperforms many computers. It's not been because of WoW; it's been because of money.

I think WOW is definitely strangling MMO gaming, as those titles require serious commitment, and people often won't branch into more than one, two tops. I personally think WOW was bested long ago, its just that is has such a stranglehold on the industry.

You obviously don't know that many people who play WoW on a regular basis.
