If you know me well, you will know that Broken Sword, the point-and-click adventure series from tiny developers Revolution Software, is my favourite series of all time. Nothing comes close. Throw all the Final Fantasy games at me; Grand Theft Auto's, the Metal Gear Solids and the Zeldas, but Broken Sword will always take the throne as my favourite franchise of all time.

Why? Because at its very core, it's immersive, addictive, riveting and indulging. The story, character development, and dialogue is deep, weaving and complex, and the gameplay is simplistic yet appealing to the interested.

Well recently, a Broken Sword title has been approved for release by Nintendo from the publishers Ubisoft. The game was originally for the Playstation console, with Broken Sword 3 appearing multiplatform, and Broken Sword 4 with a PC exclusive release. Now it seems to be Nintendo's turn to host what I believe to be the reason I am into gaming! The source is not definitive, but theres many articles like it. A GBA port was released a few years back but THQ failed to fight off various game bugs and errors. The DS and the Wiimote make perfect work of the point-and-click adventure genre, so can we expect a somewhat revival of these types of games?

Do yourself a favour; and play Broken Sword 1 and 2 somehow. Provided your in the right mood and ready for a good story, then they will not disappoint and you will be extremely content and satisfied. Its a rare title thesedays, but if this article is true, then thank heavens, we can all play it on our Nintendo platforms soon!

Its also a matter of taste. Not everyone will find this game as great as you Kill.

Its a shame its only for Wii. If Fatal Frame 4 is anything to go by, it won't get any advertising and clearly be forgotten about.

The point of my article was to merely inform everyone that Broken Sword was coming to Wii, although my article has been edited to become a blog.

But I do hope people will try it. It really is underrated and underappreciated; and it really gets your brain moving. I have the .iso of the games but of course, its illegal to share so I cant share with you guys but if I just wanna say that if you ever get the chance, try Broken Sword 1 or 2.

Killosity, if I could give you 5 thumbs right now I would. Broken Sword *is* an amazing adventure game series, and you are dead on right: Wii users, if you never played this series on the PC, do yourself a favor and check out one of the last remaining franchises from the adventure game eraon the PC in the 90s, that is still keeping the genre alive.

Yep, played them all except the last one ... I stopped after Sleeping Dragon so I just picked up The Angel of Death because I hear it is one of the darkest of the series (so sorry I missed out on it).

But yep, still have my copies of Shadows of the Templars, The Smoking Mirror (my fav), and Sleeping Dragon.

P.S. I wish all my traveling adventures as a tourist were as bad ass as George Stobbart exploits, lol.

Yeh Angel of Death is quite dark. Numbers 3 and 4 hold nothing to the first two titles, but they are overall, just so fantastic. Shadow of the Templars is my favourite, but the Smoking Mirror is every bit as fantastic. I think my main appeal of the series is the characterisation of George Stobbart and Nico Collard. Both so unique and do not conform to the sterotypes for video game heroes. Dunno how to explain it but I just feel such passion towards the dialogue that comes from the two characters.

Im truly so happy that someone else here experienced them. Whenever friends or family look at my games, they assume Broken Sword refers to an RPG game. And thats the sad truth, for all its charm and beautiful characterisation, it will never be truly appreciated by the masses.

Daigoji Gai, I would like to alert you of the fanmade game which was produced a few months back for PC. It is Broken Sword 2.5, a game for fans, from fans, and returns to its 2D roots. It is quite short, but I think its a wonderful and faithful unofficial entry into the series. Google "Broken Sword 2.5", and it is a free download. Its made by Germans, and it took them 6 or so years to produce it. It has English subtitles but German voice actors, but there is an English version going to be released soon.

Obviously the 700 or so mb file size may put you off, or you may not be interested, but If you ever get some spare time and some spare bandwidth, have a look. Its charming and certainly makes you revisit the old titles.

Don't get me wrong Kill, I find this article very interesting, I'm just not sure if anyone will find it as great as you. Although that's to be expected. I'm actually curious why this isn't out on the other consoles. I mean there seems to be PS2 version of this game, which I never knew at all. Guess its the same as FF4.

I'm also worried about the advertisement of the game. FF4 got barely anything and its not looking to great.

You need at least an IQ above that of a potato to enjoy Point and Click adventure games. Criteria you fail to qualify for.

Ouch - wow - you just crapped on the genre that helped give birth to seeing mature and developed narratives in games - and - more importantly: shat on one of the greatest point and click adventures of all time - The Longest Journey.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Longest_Journey

"The game drew praise from critics for its enigmatic, mature storyline and high production values, but was criticized for some of its more obscure puzzles."

So all those years ago, now sought after classics like the LucasArts games: The Digg, Maniac Mansion, DAY OF THE TENTACLE, and Full Throttle; and of course those sierra classics: Kings Quest, Space Quest, PHANTASMAGORIA - were designed for those with an IQ lower than a potato.

WOW! That is like... blasphemy you are speaking friend.

        WOW, ive seen it all.

I suggest you look a little harder. You miss read. Above. Above.

Broken Sword is one of my top 10 games ever. Along with BaSK, Discworld & Sam & Max Hit the Road. Couldn't get into the 3D Broken swords though.
