New Challenger: 3 Reasons Why Gaming Will Destroy Itself Part 1
9 hours 53 mins ago
With the enhanced update of Chrono Trigger DS just out, Siliconera is speculating on whether or not they're a good idea as opposed to cranking out brand new stuff. What do you think?
This week, Chrono Trigger DS has been added to the growing list of SNES and NES rpgs Square Enix is re-releasing or porting. How do you feel about this? Do you think that Square Enix should work on some new IPs, or is what theyre doing sufficient for you?
Jenni: While it is nice to see the re-release, Im not excited. Its basically the same game I already own for the PS1. Since there were no earth-shattering updates, it could easily have just been re-released the on the Wiis Virtual Console for 800 points/$8. I think re-releases are a good thing, because it could mean a new generation of gamers are getting to experience exceptional titles. But a limit should be established. While one re-release/port is okay, it can be a bit ridiculous when a single game, with only minor alterations, appears on three or four different systems.
What Square Enix needs to get on is a new entry in the Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross storyline. The company knows the series is beloved and has a strong fanbase, so they need take a step back from Final Fantasy spin-offs and bring a new Chrono game to either the PS3 or Wii. If the company can revive Parasite Eve, it can revive the Chrono series as well.

Europe?
Plus the major slowdown made it about unplayable, or so I've heard.
I for one enjoy all of the remakes on the DS at the moment, the remake of FFIV is fantastic and this Chrono Trigger remake is astounding.
I have no problems with re-releases though. It is a good way for the company to make a bit of extra money. And of course as always the simple solution is if you don't like them don't buy them. If companies aren't making money off of it they will stop doing it.
A DS programmer isn't going to prove much use in developing a PS3 game.
The only valid argument would be to have the port crew work on another new IP. And even then what's the point? Why waste man power on a new IP that might fail when you can port a game that would be a gareenteed winner?
I love FFIV on DS.
I wish there was a PSP version of Suikoden outside of Japan.Suikoden is one of my most wanted games that is almost impossible to find without paying an arm and a leg for it.
I will continue to turn up my nose at Square ports, until they start bringing the good ones they neglected to the forefront.
VAGRANT STORY!
The PSX FFs have enough glitches and goofiness that they probably should be higher on a remake list than most of the others.
