John Davison, an editor for 1up has had his 360 assassinated by his PS3. He blogs about his setup which is just an average wooden shelved unit with glass doors. He has his PS3 and 360 both inside and with the doors closed.

The accident happened when his sons were playing 360 one morning. The youngest had the PS3 controller and was "pretend" playing while his brother actually played. Unknowingly the smaller child turned on the PS3. While this was going on the glass door was still closed and with both consoles turned on...well. It lead to the 360 red ringing of death. So, the lesson to learn from Mr. Davison's experience is

1) Don't keep both consoles in a confined space, or actually just the PS3 as it will burn down your house, assassinate your appliances and eat your children.
2) Don't let your kids "pretend" play with the device that starts a death machine.

How do you figure that? it was not the 360 that overheated it was the PS3 that cranked temperature up so high without even playing a game, mind you just by being on. Please try to keep the very negative fanboy comments to yourself, it might only lead to flamewars which we do not want

    Hahahha, that is freaking awesome!

I've said time and time again, keeping the PS3, or any video game console inside of an enclosed area is a bad idea from the start.

I mean these are effectively computers which also need space to breath, not simply your average set top box like a TiVo.

very very true. With PC's at least you have larger fans and a bit better ventilation. With consoles you don't get that. If you keep your consoles in an enclosed area it's your own fault if something goes awry like in this case.

Actually the PC can have a over-heated meltdown. Happen to mine 2 times, it doesnt matter how big the fan is. If you have it in a enclosed space, or have to many stuff on the tower it will over-heat evertime.

That's not nessicarily true. Look at server rooms / server racks and how they're all stacked one atop the other it's an enclosed space but they have good knowledge on how to cool things properly.

Tekmosis is right FinalBlade, PC's don't overheat "evertime" or "everytime."

Your PC clearly doesn't have the right cooling though, overheating shouldn't be a problem unless you're doing something that would obviously raise the temperature or you have the incorrect type or amount of cooling for your hardware.

It's not difficult to keep a PC at safe temperatures at ALL times.
