Metal Gear Solid 4's Sunny = A Lolicon Fetish?

After playing Metal Gear Solid 4, AltJapan author Matt Alt found one part of the game particularly puzzling ... The relationship between Sunny and Otacon. Here's his take on the topic ...

The relationship between introverted computer genius Hal "Otacon" Emmerich and his charge Sunny (seen above) is a diamond-polished window into the soul of the young men who work for Japanese game companies. A doe-eyed nine- or ten-year-old who resembles a child less than she does a scaled-down maid café waitress, she waits on her guardian hand and foot, cleaning, assisting with programming, and serving meals. The pair live as virtual hikikomori shut-ins on a high-tech aircraft that serves as a mobile base for the game's protagonist.

Love it or hate it, the Otakon-Sunny relationship only really makes sense when it's viewed through the prism of the moé phenomenon.

      You got that right...I thought it was just a father/daughter kind of relationship, or big brother/little sister. Protective.

      This is...wrong. Sunny just likes to cook and clean, at least from my understanding she does. Otacon asks for her assistance here and there, and that's it. There's nothing deeper than that, even with the whole 'Japan' bit that the writer mentions.

      What's next? Naomi's seen as coming out of the closet due to her moment with Sunny?

          No kidding. You know what I'm starting to get out of this...is that people better look out for this author...he may just be projecting his own thoughts onto Otacon here.

        I say big brother little sister.I mean he did lose his real sister so he probably just thinks of Sunny as a little sister.

        I think the originator of the article just has a sick mind.I mean, I have a very dirty mind and that thought never even crossed my mind.
