Yukari Iwatani Kane of online.wsj.com has posted a rather long blog concerning Wii Music, the fans and general success. It's said Wii Music might be the first major flop for the Wii, Miyamoto insists it's simply not a big-and-fast seller like other games but a gradual process.

Will Wii Music take off? Will it flop? Read on about Wii Music and where it's at/going.

"It could be Nintendo's first flop for Wii," said Benjamin Schachter, an analyst with UBS Investment Research.

In an interview, the famously private Mr. Miyamoto said he isn't bothered by how Wii Music is performing so far. "I don't expect Wii Music to be an immediate hit," said the boyish-looking 56-year-old, who joined Nintendo in 1977 and now runs its game development. "It will be a steady long-running seller that will spread gradually by word-of-mouth."

Mr. Miyamoto said his goal is to make games more than just a form of entertainment. Wii Music, he said, has educational value as a tool to teach music theory.

Yup, what a great intellectual answer. You sure have cleared up the issue surrounding Wii Music's poor sales.

EDIT: Holy shit, someone actually gave him a thumb up! My faith in this site has been running low recently.

but Mr. Miyamoto let slip in a recent interview that he likes to swim and does laps in a pool once or twice a week.
I think he did that on purpose so other game companies can steal that shitty idea and loose millions on it.

    quote
Mr. Miyamoto said at the time that he found it an interesting challenge to return to the basics and come up with simple, high-quality games for the Wii that don't rely on fancy graphics or licensing of well-known athletes. "It's a good test of one's abilities as a developer," he said.
That's fantastic, but where are those high quality games you promised us (other than Galaxy)?

Doesn't something require appeal to draw fans?
    • 1
      Dark Arcanine Dec 17, 08
It does appeal otherwise it wouldn't sell, as I said it's just people enjoy disliking it. If you have played it for a while and generally don't like it, then you have a right. A lot of cool games have a bad first appearance. Like Freelancer for PC.

You have to play the game AFTER you buy it, some people buy it simply because it has Wii in the front assuming its good. When it turns out its not good, they tell other people its not very good, which in turn reduces sales. The game has very little appeal, thats why it has little sales, and evem smaller fans.

You can return a game unless you go to some place real dodgy, so it's not hard to try a game out and not lose money. And if people are easily influenced then that is pathetic on all of their accounts, none of my friends are like that.

We certainly aren't speaking about your friends now are we? Contrary to how you think apparently, the majority of people are easily swayed.

I feel that Wii Music is a lot like bands. For example, it's fashionable to hate Cradle of Filth or DragonForce. In the games world, it's quite fashionable to hate Wii Music. You'll be lucky to find one in two people who criticise it have actually played it.

Well the 30+ game commercials didn't help the sales or fans, especially the people who was playing the Wii Music showed no excitement or emotion just rather thrown in there for the hell of it. There was one or two people that showed something, but given the other 20 other commercials it was already too late. The commercials showed just how much of a gimmick and joke the game was. Literally reassured why people would not want to play an imaginary instrument. At least Rock Band and Guitar Hero has instrument add-ons for the console which gives the player something like he's playing one.

Why can't you just admit Miyamoto you took to big of a chance thinking with the overblown success of Wii Sports and Fit that this would easily be up there in success, rather you give excuses like "I don't expect Wii Music to be an immediate hit, It will be a steady long-running seller that will spread gradually by word-of-mouth." to lessen the blow of the bomb which is Wii Music? Admit your faults and move on, and keep your dignity rather then make it worse in the end.

Which by the way, I saw the commercials and thought it was a huge gimmick and a joke, and then I went to the gamestore and saw it in play, and it was worse. I even attempted to play it, but couldn't due to how horrible it was. It takes the "Flailing your arms like a bird" statement to an absurd level.

Those were only the Japanese commercials. Here we got people showing TOO much excitement and emotion.

        Final Blade Dec 18, 08
I haven't seen many if not one English Wii Music commercial, which means they learned from the horrid Japanese commercials. Either way the Japanese commercials which was shown world wide, mind you, didn't help the sales. In fact it caused the failure of the sales.

lol, way to much. This game is terrible. I just cant fathom the stupidness of it. No point system, $50, no point to the game. It even boasts those. I dont really feel all that bad for nintendo, because of what Miyamoto is doing.

      Big A2 Dec 18, 08
Miyamoto wanted to prove that you don't need point systems to have fun, unfortuantly, this generation doesn't like having fun without points.

True. Most people love accumalting point through games as it feels like an accomplishment when you beat someone else.

I think Nintendo failedepicly with this game. It is not as good as it sounds and gets tiresome after a while.
