Handhelds Took A Back Seat For 2008

Dark Arcanine | December 18, 2008 | Blog | DS Playstation Portable
Stephen Totilo of multiplayerblog.mtv.com discusses how the PSP and Nintendo DS didn't really shine in 2008. Yes they did well, and had some great game additions, but compared to the "big three" they just didn't cut it this year.

Will 2009 see the handhelds get back to centre stage?
Sony and third party publishers neglected to add many games to the PSP's software library in the second half of 2008. Nintendo calmed its usually aggressive handheld release schedule this year as well, allowing, atypically, third party publisher to shine with content as diverse as "Lock's Quest," "Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword," lots of Square-Enix role-playing games and Activision's unstoppable line of "Guitar Hero: On Tour" games.

The PSP has definitely tailed off in titles.

As far as aggressiveness, they already dropped Pokemon with Platinum on the way. Phantom Hourglass is not much more than a year old. NSMB is still selling like hotcakes. I'm not sure what another Yoshi or Wario type game would add. Plus there's always Kirby.
