Tons of people are disappointed with the beta version of PlayStation Home, and Perry Piekarski over at Binge Gamer is no different. He went through the reasons why he (and tons of other people) thinks Home has failed, some of which include long loading times and spending some dough for just about everything.

Imagine taking the Sims and removing the god factor and the ability to control multiple characters at once. Then, make it so the player must now pay for any add-ons to his house and solitary character using money—real money. Basically, imagine taking the Sims and sucking all the fun from it (and introducing some economics).

Well, in a nutshell, that’s what PlayStation Home is. Sure, it looks pretty (the graphics bear a striking resemblance to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series), but when it comes down to it, Home is straight-up lame.

Maybe it is because it is still a beta, but I completely agree with the article. Home is lame. The most fun thing I've seen done with Home is the "it's a trap" video and the house party Kevin Pereira hosted at his apartment on G4.

Do not really like going into sheer negativity but indeed, the Beta is quite pathetic in my opinion. HOWEVER, it is a Beta and prehaps a lot of improvements related to content and actual purpose/fun will arrive in the future builds.

Not gonna write off Home just yet; it has the potential to be fantastic and addicting.

I guess my biggest beef is that this is the public BETA.....I really would have thought Sony would have figured out most of the problems during the private BETA. Home has a lot of changes to make before I make it my permanent residence.

If its such a failure then why is it always packed? Ive been on there at 5am and its still bumpin.. Dont failures consist of people not buying a game or playing it? When i go into home and there's like 1 person in it then yes its a failure. but until then i just don't see it. What the hell is every1 doing in there if theres nothing to do?

That's the thing, regardless if they're nitpicking and not understanding beta's they're still going to go on it. This authors opinion, no offense, is stupid. I mean literally he's a closed minded person who, just like everyone is misguided on home. Not to mention the fact Home open Beta is better than the avatar system in terms of character creation.
      quote
I understand it’s just the beta version. And I know that this isn’t quite the full game and that Sony will certainly be dropping loads of downloadable content on the PSN. But a beta version is typically not too far off from what final version of a game will be, and if this is the case with Home, I likely won’t be playing it much longer.
Except Home isn't a game, it's a social networking application and to be honest that's not what a beta truly is. That's a demo and tbh, people must have high standards and assume perfection even in beta's and quite frankly not only is that sad, but a bad way to view things.

BETA's are server testers which literally is meant to give some feel of what the full version could be(which a much higher potential), but also make sure the servers don't cause issues on release on the full version and fix any bugs still within the system.

But the thing is he's not ranting on about the technical issues. In fact last time I went on, much of them have been resolved. I'm not experiencing any of the problems I did when the BETA first went public.

He's talking about that it's not all it's cracked up to be. I mean really Home is something you'd fondle around with when you're bored and maybe spend hours on if you have no life, and start paying for extra textures when the boredom becomes terminal. Seriously do people actually pay for this shit? Just to add more excitement to their sanctuary of boredom. And now they completely stripped voice chats which is lame. I mean really this just caters to the anti-social more than anything. It's just lame. This whole avatars/Miis/Home trend is lame. I give Sony props for trying a more decorated approach though.

And the avatar or NXE isn't all it's cracked up to be either, but you don't see me or anyone else who thinks this make this ridiculous opinion blog. If you don't like it, then cool don't go on and allow other enjoy it. But of course these people try to suck the fun that is in the beta even if others may not see it. The point of Home is to build a strong social network of the PS online community in a way like XBL. The Bowling, the arcade and the like are just some things to pass the time before setting up an online match room. It's not meant to be for anti-social people. I love this feature, but I'm not anti-social.

Very true about the activities.MSN has games but that doesn't mean you have to play them.Same thing with the games in Home.

Most of the time I go on Home a don't even touch the games.I have a lot of fun doing what Home is mostly about, and that is communicating with others. It's far better than messaging back and forth trough the XMB.Home is a great way to make PSN friends.

I also like the game adverts and such.I was sitting there watching the Loco Roco 2 trailer with a big smile and bobbing along with the music the whole way through.

I'm really quite sick of all these negative articles. Home isn't perfect, but A) its free and B) its getting better. If a man at a store comes up to you and offers you a free sample of their chocolate and its not too great you don't bag them for it. Espeically when they listen to your criticisms and come back with a better product. As Gamesta100 said Home is little more than an interactive MSN. The basis for communication is already there, if your not into that then why the hell are you playing it?

So I guess all those people that spend hours on MSN have no lives as weell. After all Home really is just a far more interactive MSN.

Some of these blogs are pretty funny, but you kind of have to remember that they're gonna be opinionated. They're like that because (1) they're blog posts, and (2) opinions generate greater responses, meaning more site traffic.

But making fun of Home is just the cool thing to do right now, like how hating on E3 was pretty cool for a few months, or how it was cool to like the Titanic movie when it came out, but some time later, disliking the movie became the new fad.

    The Home-is-failure bandwagon will pass.

I actually thought it sounded neat in theory. Hopefully Sony will take all these complaints to heart and do something about them. I rather like NXE, and sometimes wish Microsoft would push the interactive features a bit further like what Sony is trying to do. Still, the Avatars are a big step forward.

Well I'm VERY happy that I'm not one of the million's of sheep in this world.

I'm not going to waste my time bashing something I don't like just because it's the "cool" thing to do.

I don't really enjoy HOME at all. I would rather play another online game.

The time's i have been on HOME i haven't really known what to do, i just run around. Having said that i haven't been on many times and it is only in its BETA stage

ITS NOT A DAMN GAME, ITS A SOCIAL NETWORK APPLICATION WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BUILD A TIGHT KNIT ONLINE COMMUNITY WITH THE PS3 USERS!

Jesus does anyone actually looks up what home is, or do you just assume it's a game?

I think the Sims is a better game than HOME is. HOME just doesn't satisfy me for a game. Dash of Destruction was a better free game than HOME was.

i have never played this so really i cant say much but the NXE has mixed feeling about it some things in it are cool like the party chat but i truly think they should have done that in the beginning with the bladed dashboard but they didn't so oh well.

now on the other hand the avatar is a little pointless i mean really yeah kids and some other people may like spending hours editing there avatar instead of playing a game or something but the netflix thing is cool but i think later on you will be able to watch movies with friends in the party but im not 100% on that.

now back on the HOME thing i haven't played it so i really don't know what to think about it so im blank.

I don't like the NXE myself, but meh.

Home isn't nearly as good as I hoped.

Also, this article is Fail for totally failing to mention the crazy censor >_> That thing is bloody annoying.

I mostly use home to chat with some people (faster than messaging, except when censor slows things down), and maybe put in a game of bowling or pool with said people....

I don't plan to spend any money on it. Maaaaybe for a TV, if there isn't a free one on the full version release (ditto for radio and picture frame).

      Gamesta100 Dec 22, 08
Tell that to the shit load of people that use Home.Just because you and others think it sucks doesn't make it so.

Just about the whole time I'm on my PS3, there is about half of my PSN friends are on Home.

I know it's a matter of opinion, but heck, what's the point of this game? It's cool to hang around and all but don't you think it's better if you all go to the same game and play together or every meet each other in real life? Meeting as 3D avatars on a game that has no absolute point in it seems kinda... well... pointless.

You could say the same thing about Phones or the internet. Why call someone on the phone to talk for hours if you can just go to their house and talk in person? Because it's sometimes nice to be able to interact with people without leaving the comfort of your own house.

What about those friends in other states you make on PSN that become as good as personal friends?
It's not like you can just get in your car and drive to your friends house whenever you want if they're in a completely different state.

People need to learn that Home isn't that different to MySpace or Facebook apart from the fact that it's far more interactive.

Coming from someone who's closed minded and doesn't know anything about the application, shouldn't comment about it. It's not a game, those little things like bowling and the like are past times for setting up a online room to play in. It's like a waiting room more than anything. In fact Its like being in a waiting room before boarding a plane. There's stands with news papers, bagels, coffee and the like, are you suggesting airports are really mini stores? Cause it's not.

I'm suggesting that something where you control a character and access various parts of this fictional area seems a lot like a game.

Man, I don't know. I didn't bother reading the article. I know I should, but I've probably already heard it all.

But I guess I'm just someone who tends to like things that everyone else says Bombed or is Lame or is a Failure. Which is fine, considering I really don't care about whether someone else likes it, so long as I like it. I love HOME, the potential there is HUGE, and I'm more than happy going on it and using HOME for what it is, instead of what it is NOT. (Which is why many don't like HOME. They don't see or use it for what it is. They have other ideas and think of it as a game.)

Home looked pretty promising. It seemed like some sort of Sims meeting ground for players where you could do various activities. Well, within minutes of realising this is incredibly boring and still pissed that I couldn't have a normal beard, I found that home seemed incredibly unnecessary.

All I found was guys crowding around one girl and dancing or people screaming random shit while running around aimlessly. I didn't see the appeal in it so I thought I'd go to the Mall to see if I could find new clothes or decorations for my house. Turns out you actually have to pay for these miniature shit. I don't see who in their right mind would actually pay for these little things. I'd rather not pay a dollar for a shirt, or anything like that.

Tell me this, would you buy a costume for a character in a game? Buying things in Home is essentially the same thing.

No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't spend actual money on shit like that.
