SlapStic.com's Ryan Rigney drops some interesting stats on some of the best-selling games of this console generation. Some of the numbers are to be expected, but others, like the fact that Wii Play has outsold Halo 3, MGS4, and GoW combined, are quite interesting.

So here's the thing, Wii Fit has mass-market appeal, and Wii Sports comes packed in with the Wii, so it's understandable for them to outsell AAA titles from the other consoles. Wii Play, however, isn't even a GOOD GAME. No one will tell you that it is. Yet the fact that it comes with a Wiimote for only $10 more has encouraged nearly 20 MILLION PEOPLE to drop down their precious cash for the thing. More people own this game than Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Gears of War COMBINED.

I think I just realized what is causing the collapse of the American economy.

It's a Wii Remote with a $10 game. Calm down.

Unfortunately for Nintendo, that's not true in the case of Wii Music.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that Wii Music has sold over one million copies. That's far from a failure, but it sure as hell isn't a Wii Play.

Did anyone else notice Wii Play is terrible? Just wondering...

WiiPlay does exactly as it suggests, it comes bundled with a controller and then goes through 12 mini-games teaching the user how to best use it and get them used to using it.

Does... does that insult even make sense? WiiMusic doesn't eat grass? Oh, uhm... heh, yeah... ?

Sheep eat grass, no matter the color.

Nintendo owners will buy Wii merchandise no matter what complete kiddy shit it is. Everyone knows that the "hardcore" Wii owners are lemmings.

I don't think this is part of the collapse of the American economy. It is called bargain hunting. People looking for an extra Wii-mote decide that rather than spending $40 on just the controller they can get the contoller and a game for just a bit more.

Does make you wonder how many more PS3s would have sold if the Metal Gear Solid pack hadn't been limited. Also makes you wonder why more games aren't marketed this way. Just add in something people want for cheap and sell a ton of games that people probably wouldn't buy otherwise. I mean look at how many people bought Eye of Judgement for the camera.

Or Socom Confrontation bundle with the Official PS3 headset, which I initially had no intentions of getting besides the headset. But it works in my favor anyway for the trophies with the game.

I did the same for both games. And I rarely use the camera or the headset.

Why do you refer to yourself in third person when you post your articles on GG? XD

      Final Blade Dec 30, 08
I also asked this 3 months ago on one of his articles, go no response though.

Because he's writing an article description, which ideally should be from a neutral perspective.

I get a laugh whenever people refer to themselves in third person. It's just amusing/cute.

Xenctuary has the ticket. It'd be unprofessional to just assume that everyone on this site knows who I am.

          RabidChinaGirl Dec 31, 08
Well, I just notice most everyone else refers to the site itself, rather than give the author's name (if the poster is the author). That's pretty much why your third person-ism came to my attention.

Whoops, accidentally gave you a 'thumbs up' while I was clicking back to my GG browser window. X3

Well seeming how you submit alot of articles from slapstic(your site) and anyone on this site that knows that site, would probably recognize you. So I don't think it's unprofessional at all. The people on this site isn't stupid.

"The people on this site ISN'T stupid." lol.

I'm sorry, I just had to point that out. My point is that assuming this site isn't dying, it's probably getting new members all the time. Thus, I introduce myself with each article.

I think Ryan knows that SlapStic is he's site. You don't need to point that out for him.

Thanks for missing my point Big A2 and Ryan. Why I stated that was, if people know what Slapstic is, and people seen you around here before with submitting your articles, people will know who you are.

Also Ryan yea maybe Gamegrep is getting new members, but you actually think none of them actually heard about Slapstic before? I find it ridiculous than anything.

I still back RCG on this one though. It's kinda silly and weird to continue to use the third person talk on your own articles. And tbh, I really haven't seen many new faces on gamegrep. It's mostly people from Neo. And they recognize you and the site.

Can't say this is surprising at all.....considering everyone needs another wiimote and it's only $10 for the game to be included.

well no shit, sherlocke. everyone that buys a Wii gets Wii Play. but only cause its pretty much a remote and a free game, at least the game is only $10. i guarantee that without the included remote, Wii Play would have sold jack squat.

consequently, after playing all games on Wii Play, the ONLY game worth playing on it is Tanks. Tanks is so damn awesome!

      Final Blade Dec 31, 08
That's kinda sad if you think about it. but to be expected, since it's the Wii and all.

na man, Tanks is cool, you drive with the nunchuck joystick and point with the remote to aim. and for added fun and laughs, the tank shells bounce off walls. its the only game i can think of where ive killed myself and cracked up laughing!

I wasn't talking about Tanks, though it does sound interesting. I'm just saying that out of X amount of games you find one that's actually Good.

Tanks is one of the few games on WiiPlay that are enjoyable, and possibly the only one with replay value. It's like one of those minigames that's so stupid, but so addictive that you just can't stop playing until you reach that ever distant 100 point mark.

though its fun, its still not as good as the old school tanks games like on PC. OMFG.... remember all the awesome shit from a long time ago like Tank Wars or Scorched Earth? those games were so *bleep*ing badass.

It's because Wii Play is a game for the whole family therefore bringing them close together and having fun. You could do that on Halo and GoW but not a lot of parents would play them.

Well, you have to figure out all the possibilities that you can do with such a game.
