Have you been thinking that the last Legend of Zelda game was released too long ago? Well you'd be right. This year has been the first Zelda-free year in a decade! Better step up your game Nintendo, before the fans get mad ...

For the first time this decade, the gaming world has gone without a single new entry in the long-standing, and much beloved Zelda franchise.

Not since 1999, during the gap year between the fabled Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the love-it-or-hate-it Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, has an entire calendar year passed by that didn’t bear witness to a Zelda game.

1998 - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX
1999 – No releases
2000 – Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
2001 – Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
2002 – Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (GBA) and Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
2003 – Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Master Quest
2004 – Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
2005 – Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
2006 – Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
2007 – Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Link’s Crossbow Training

*All releases listed according to their North American release.

Hah! Wow, I never would've thought of that, since I don't pay much attention to Wii games (and suck with dates), but it's kind of amusing to notice this.

Oh my, I thought that the crossbow training came out this year? That's surprising. I'm sure Nintendo will make up for this and add in a Zelda game next year, hopefully something on bar with Ages/Seasons. <3 those GBC games.

Well...Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf were in SSBB, and that was released this year...so hah!

Well they were in the game, but its not a Zelda game, they were just cameo characters..... like all the characters in SSB....

Meh, TBH I'd prefer they spent a couple of years or so, to create an epic Zelda game, as opposed to just ports and the like >_>

I'm hoping they'ree release a new game in 2009, one that they've spent time on to make it worth buying though.

Until 2009 where they will release a new game in the Zelda series that the Zelda team have been working on.

There was 6 years between A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. I don't think fans will be rallying in the streets now if they didn't then.

Maybe not. But the lack of Zelda on the N64 was the reason I and many others traded it in for the PS1 and FF7. If the 360 or PS3 could get another RPG of that caliber then the Wii could be in trouble without a good non-ported Zelda game.

There are RPGs other than Zelda ya know, and there's plenty here.

Oh, and you traded in your Nintendo 64 becuase one game you wanted didn't come out until it's fourth year?

You obviously didn't realize how massive Zelda was back in the day.

I know how massive the hype around Zelda 64 was, but to sell your console because ONE game keeps getting delayed is ridiculous.

I traded it because the N64 sucked and game delays were a persistent problem on that system. The PS1 was doing vastly better in all departments. It was well worth the trade.

I'm not fanboyish enough to stick by a console that offers me nothing. If something better comes along I'm going to trade up. Fortunately this generation I can afford all the consoles so no need to trade. But I didn't have quite as much money in the 90s.

I like the article from ign that was posted on here a few days ago, about the Zelda timeline and the fact that taking time between releases generally leads to a better product. It would be great to see something along the lines of the Oracles series, even if it was outsourced back to Capcom to allow the Nintendo-based Zelda team more time to focus on the next Wii adventure. Either way, I'm always looking forward to the next game in the series.

YES! I'd love another 2D Zelda game from Capcom. Phantom Hourglass felt like it was dumbing down Zelda for a wider audience, but The Minish Cap was fantastic.

Hmm well this is something pretty cool to notice. Though nothing to worry seeing as how they never do seem to disappoint.

Well, if they do release a new zelda game for the wii next year, lets just say it'll be time to clean off the cobwebs from my wii.

I don't think it would be next year, unless it was going to be a DS title.

I don't think they'll do a DS title next, since they already did one with Phantom Hourglass.
Plus, we need a Zelda game on the Wii that isn't a port.

I hope the next Zelda game is for Wii. And I hope that Nintendo try their best to use the Wii to it's fullest ... Huge and varied locations, lots of exploration, gorgeous graphics, and for the love of god give us a bigger variety of music! (hearing the 'enemy approaching' music for the millionth time in Twilight Princess really grated the nerves).

They are doing a new Zelda game for Wii in 2009.

Nintendo Power did a profile on miyamoto. he said,

"Soon enough, on the 9, Link will have all new problems.
Anyway, my PS3 is down probably sold (nothing for that console in 2009 to my liking and my 360 is, still running Halo3 and Naruto: TBB

I say lets go back to Wind Waker style game for one more roundabout for Wii. It could be a sequel, but add more dungeons (yes I am excluding Phantom Hourglass).

Well, then, you musnt care for the REAL series. In my opinion, i liked the regular style more. WWs Style was dumb.

And i was PISSED when toon link replaced Young Link in Brawl.
Young Link was my fav in Melee, and my
      favorite Link of all.
      He's 1337
