SlapStic.com's editor explains why he recently sold his Wii, and why he believes all hardcore gamers are cheating themselves if they don't follow suit.

So I had only purchased ONE good game for my Wii in 2008.

Luckily, I had purchased an Xbox 360 from a crackhead around September, and since countless of my close friends already owned the console, I got to experience some of the best of the best games that it had to offer through borrowing. I teabagged people in Halo 3, killed a zombie with an umbrella in Dead Rising, broke some guy's high-definition jaw bone in Fight Night Round 3, robbed hundreds of villagers in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, hung another real player online in Left 4 Dead as a Smoker, shoved lots of random people in Assassin's Creed, and killed a hooker in Prince of Persia.

altThere was no going back.

I really love the articles from Slapstic.com. Many of the articles that are published on the website are original, and interesting to read. And I'm not just powdering your face for some thumbs either. I'd really appreciate more Slapstic articles in the future and really hope your website expands and grows.

In regards to the article, I 100% agree. To further my perspective, The Nintendo Wii is pure crapfest for hardcore gamers or those like me who like a good shooter or deep game. I paid full price for my Wii, and thus I'll say what I want about it exept from accusations of fanboyism and trolling. -It is shit (for me) and I cannot wait to sell it. It was a waste of cash, through my own stupidity of course, and I wouldn't reccomend the console to any hardcore gamer coming from the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube generation.

In saying that, I love Nintendo for what they have done to mums, dads, sisters, and older family members in my family who, at a time, didn't understand my gaming habits. Now most of them have Wii's in their households, and its fantastic to see them sharing in the joy that can be had from playing video games.

I totally agree. My Grandpa not only played Wii Bowling, but got EXCITED about it. That's the only game besides Tetris that he's ever even touched. "It's just like real bowling!" he exclaimed.

Nintendo has done an AWESOME job of hitting that target audience. They just haven't kept the old audience interested.

I'm guessing this article is pointed towards those that own only and wii, and were greatly disappointed by the crap it has.

Protip: don't sell your wii, as it has excellent games once in a blue moon and you don't want to miss out on them

just save up for a 360, they aren't expensive

You say that, but after selling my Wii and games I now have about $400 in spending money. Very nice.

I think alot of hardcore gamers have given up on the wii, the only people who are buying it are individuals who aren't heavily invested in video games..like hardcore gamers and the Nintendo fanboys who cling to their marios, and zeldas. Games IMo that have run their course..but no nintendo fanboy will admit that.

I won't admit becuase it's not true. Super Mario Galaxy was the best thing I've played in some time, and Twilight Princess topped Ocarina of Time in my honest opinion.

Haha, I sold my Wii just before Christmas.

I never played it tbh, and when a big game comes out I can always rent it and use the one we've got at home.

The Wii isn't a bad system, in my opinion. It just doesn't have good games that would satisfy hardcore gamers. Nintendo might be making money by focusing mainly on these so called casual gamers (Of course, I can't call anyone who would play Wii Play a gamer ), but they're losing customers who are hardcore gamers.

That's it.I think the Wii is a great system, just that the majority of the games aren't appealing to me.

Most people who hate the Wii are probably either fanboys or guys that are to "manly" to play such a "kiddy" console.

    Gamesta100* Jan 4, 09
That's why I don't want a Wii.To much crappy games. The only two games I'm even interested in on the Wii is SSBB and Mario Kart.

I would call myself a hardcore gamer so I'm happy to own a PS3 and get a 360 somewhere along the line.

So I had only purchased ONE good game for my Wii in 2008.
And how is that Nintendo fault if your not buying games?

There were heaps of great games in 2008. Wario Land, Super Smash Bros Brawl, de Blob, World of Goo.

And there even more stuff released in 2007 to buy in case you missed out on it.

Now go on, call me a fanboy.

Agreed. Why didn't he just spend more money on the games he bought. That cannot be nintendo's fault.

      RKRigney Jan 4, 09
Did you really read the article? I specifically said that I DID buy Smash Bros. Also, I played World of Goo on PC. Wario Land and de Blob didn't interest me. Why spend $50 on de Blob when I can get a game like The Orange Box on the 360?

So, like I said, how is it Nintendo's fault their games don't interest you?

And about the Super Smash Bros thing, I never said in my post you didn't buy it, I was just listing the best 2008 Wii games.

I've actually bought several Wii games, yet you're more likely to see me playing Gamecube, and SNES games on it instead. All exclusives on the Wii are horrible compared to exclusives on the other consoles. All the non-exclusives are always better on the other consoles as well, due to better online features, better controls, and better graphics.

I'm not sure if you've tried to play 360/PS3 games before, but if you haven't, you really should. Comparing Wii exclusives to 360/PS3 exclusives is like comparing Veggie Tales to Lord of the Rings. They're so much more deep, detailed, and advanced.

World of Goo is awesome, but id rather buy that on Steam than Wii. Steam pwns Wii Shop Channel.

I'm pretty much a casual gamer and a longtime Mario fan, so I won't be selling my Wii at all. Still, there's not many games for it that I actually want, and I have my eyes set on a 360 in a few months. I'll still be playing my Wii later on, but there's a gaming experience to be had with the 360 that I know Nintendo isn't going to give me.

Revenger of Wastelan Jan 4, 09
This guy is so right. I said it from the first day Wii was out : "You can't be a hardcore gamer wagglin your stupid Wii stick playing tennis or whatever". Wii has a few good games but Nintendo are considered criminals in the hardcore-gaming world, and should be replace immidietly by the X360 and PS3. My first perspective of the Wii was that it's a family-fun console, and they never done enough to prove me wrong.

    I haven't brought a game for my wii since 2007. In 2007 I only got 1.

    SUCH a good console...

The last good game I bought was Resi-Evil 4 in August.

I traded it and all my wii games in and got me a PS3.

Curious, since I still can't afford any of the three systems: what happened to all the fan craze from Nintendo fans during the last press conference? Wasn't that supposedly the "return of the hardcore Nintendo?"

Phooey, the DS has had an absense of Hardcore games for about a year! Where are all the articles about it? Judging from E3 last year I took a guess that Nintendo's drop of Wii games right now is due to the focus on the DS which lead to the lack of upcoming games to be excited for on the Wii.

I miss the way that the Game Cube was dependant on the Hardcore market... It forced Nintendo to really work on its games... My favorite games of four genres come from that one system...

    nflsmc Jan 4, 09
I gave up on the Wii after E3 this year. Until then, I could tolerate wading through loads of crap for the occasional good game like Galaxy or Brawl(imo). But once they made it clear that they only cared about getting old people to play I fully turned my attention to my 360.

I still love my DS though, and refuse to buy a DSi.

I've always been a huge Nintendo fan, but I won't forgive them for what they're doing with the Wii. It had a lot of potential for shooters and there was a huge calling for a Star Wars game with the lightsaber. Never happened in a good way, and the system has like 5 shooters. Terrible.

But still, I'll be keeping mine. Brawl, Mario Kart, and Mario Party 8 are great games for when you're with a group of people. And Mario Party is extra fun if you imagine that people are dying in every game. Mario Galaxy is a great single player game, as well. But I'll be selling that one once I stop putting it off to play other games and finish it.

However, some good games look like they're coming out. Madworld and The Conduit look very promising.

tl;dr: The Wii is 90% suck. The other 10% is good games that are first party and don't have 'Wii' as the first word in the title. And like 3 third party games.

    Halo_Asassin Jan 4, 09
The only game I bought for the Wii in 2008 was Brawl. I bought Galaxy in 2007. Both were great games, however, do not make the Wii worth owning. Mad World looks promising. I really want to have a reason to play the thing, but there's hardly any good things to play on it.

I feel pretty much the same.
I bought the Wii mainly for Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess and Brawl. They were good games, but in the end I didn't feel as though I'd gotten my money's worth.

There are a handful of future Wii games I'm looking forward to, but once they've been released I'll be selling the console ASAP. Otherwise my Wii is just collecting dust.

I have a fair few games on my Wii that I find to be great fun and there are numerous other ones that I am looking forward too. I think the major problem for the Wii is that the number of casual games are districting from the serious games. Many of which are of quite good quality. The major problem is the assumption the Wii can't have good games which leaves many people unwilling to look and therefore many developers don't bother trying.

Instead of the view of the Wii immediately meaning 'bad games' we need to make it clear that it is the fault of poor developers.

As Halo Asassin Noted Brawl and Galaxy are examples of great games on the Wii. I personally argue if it can be done once it can be done a hell of a lot more.

Personally I can name a fair few other games I am looking forward to. As well as a multitude of others I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Ever heard of owning multiple consoles? You don't need to sell a console just because you didn't buy a game for it for a few months.

But whatever, I'll sit here enjoying my 360, Wii, and PS3; while you're tied down to one console only.
    • 1
      Raziel_326 Jan 4, 09
I own all 3 and I'm still considering selling my Wii. Honestly, it's been doing nothing but collecting dust, I haven't touched it in almost a whole year.

True hardcore gamers will play games . . . and play games on whatever system they have.

A hardcore gamer does not JUST like games that are 100+ hours long with a plot that puts several classic novels to shame. Nor graphics that rival real life. A hardcore gamer will play a game he or she likes . . . even if it's on the Wii.

I have the Wii, 360, PS3, PS2, GBA, PSP, and DS. And you know what? I'm not going to sell one just because I don't like every game on it. I'm going to keep them all because I can play games that I like, no matter what system it comes on. When I sell one, it will be because they stopped supporting it, and I'm no longer interested in playing games on it.

Aw man, Mine stopped working But man do I miss those days! Pulling all nighters playing Donkey Kong Country 1&2, and the Super Mario games . . . Ah what fun!

Comparing that to my gaming today . . . it seems to not be as much fun! More of a job with some games lol Maybe I need to pull some all-nighters or something.

'Hardcore Gamers' is such a stupid term. It makes you all sound like those World of Warcraft addicts who spend 18 hours a day at their computer.

Anyway, I don't currently own a Wii but I plan to sometime soon. It's different from the same old setup that the 360/PS3 have and when I do play it with friends it's extremely fun. I wouldn't say it appeals to the masses but it's just pulling something different.

I have both PS3 and 360 and regret getting both. They are more or less the same thing, except blu ray and HDDVD business, but I would now much rather have a Wii then one of those. It may not be incredibly fun by yourself but with a few friends it can be something to do for hours.

While I agree, let me put the Wii is simplistic terms(since it's that simple of a system).

Wii is just like LBP. Its not a type of Console/Game that'll appeal to everyone. Or at least people who plays FPS, and Action games.
      • 1
        HisServant77 Jan 5, 09
Very true The Wii is indeed not for everyone. Yet the Wii, just like LBP, is also not trash simply because it doesn't appeal to certain people (Not saying you, FB, say that. I'm referring to those who believe that)

I plan on keeping my Wii. It's 2009 line-up looks solid, and the Wii motion plus will be coming out this year. I can't wait to see what happens once it's released.

Somehow or other. I find it hilarious he said he bought a 360 from a crackhead. xD

Wii is full of different games for different people, maybe the shooters and a few others could be a bit better and whatnot but it ISN'T a piece of junk. :[

the wii is more like a toy with the young audience it's aimed at. But it isn't bad, just make sure you know what you're buying when it comes to the wii. All 3 consoles have crap games, the wii just has a lt mre

I really enjoy my Wii, but i am probably going to look into buying a 360, but both are good consoles in their own way, wii having it's classic nintendo games, while Xbox has great online, but the Wii is a good console though.
