While I do like the PS3 exclusives best . . . I think such comparisons are flawed because what is "best" is dependent on the gamer who plays the game. Review scores are simple opinions as well so they can't be used.

I've thought some low-scoring games were awesome, while I've thought some high-scoring games were horrible and not even worth a rent!

I really hate the console war . . . when will people realize that the words "best," "better," "worse," "worst," are relative words and dependent on the one playing the games and using the game system.

    Can't we all get along? . . . . Hm? . . . ? . . . . Okay

Agreed... I'd give any and all sports games (were they exclusives) 5/10 whereas I'm sure someone that loves sports games would give them something like 10/10... so it's really a matter of opinion.

With that said, these articles should always be taken with a grain of salt.

How can you just give an entire genre a low score?

Same reason I can hate console FPS and sports games. He doesn't like them. Neither do I. Even if it were the best sports game or console FPS ever made in the history of video games for all time and forever I still wouldn't care because I just don't like them. I don't like the control scheme in console FPS and I just don't want to contol a football team. I would rather play a real sport than a video game.

But that's my opinion and other gamers will rant and rave about how great the game is despite me. Everyone is entitiled to an opinion.

The Genre just is not for me. I find watching Football boring, and playing the game is just the same. Cricket I love to play, but when it comes to a computer game, it's not as fun as the actual thing. With Sport, I'd rather play the sport in reality than in a game.

With RPG's, FPS and the likes, I really hope no-one prefers to do these things in reality.

What you never heard of airsoft or paintball? That's basically a real life FPS. It can be a bit more expensive and time consuming to setup than an FPS, and the story isn't nearly as interesting. I mean it is hard to beat something like Halo or Quake story wise. But the multiplayer action and game play kicks their ass any day. And the best part, there absolutely no lag. Unless you've been drinking or get a concusion or something.

Heck for that matter you can do real life RPGs too. There are groups that get together and wage massive battles iwth foam rubber swords and sheilds. Som really get into it and wear armor or dress up like orcs and such. Once again the story suffers somwhat but the game play rocks.

Really, as far as exclusives are concerned, i believe that the Wii has the best. Don't get me wrong, over all i would say that the 360 is the best console. But really, it's exclusives are all too similar. I mean it's just FPS after FPS. whereas, the Wii has Fire Emblem, Super Mario Galaxy, Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing...among others.

I have found that some of the games of this generation, which have received low scores were quite fun. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, for instance.

Too Human on the 360 was another one that was glossed over far too heavily. Really, it was one of the first great games for the 360 that was not a shooter. (which, shooters are fine in their own right...but come on.)

And well, as far as the PS3 goes, i bought mine for Metal Gear Solid 4, other than that i don't really use it...it's pretty much just a blue ray player for myself.

I'm anxious to see what each console pumps out this year, especially the PS3 (so i can use it for more than movies and metal gear)

yh both of thse are right its all based on opinion, i love sports games but like krunal said some people hate them so give them a lower rating

I do think it's been a great year for the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 and LittleBigPlanet were two of the best games released this year for any console, and Resistance II was also a fantastic shooter.

Although I have to say I think PS3 is better. PS3 and 360 have great exclusives. I'm always going on about how PS3 is much better, I'm going to stop that now since I finally listened and know it's based on opinion.

I didn't think the Wii had any good exclusives, but I now that I think about it I guess it does.
The PS3 however does have the best exclusives but that's just my oppinion.

Now what if they chose the highest ranked exclusive games, put in Braid, World of Goo, and Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, count in all exclusives and see what happens.

I have actually enjoyed Haze as a PS3 exclusive. Not game of the year I just wish it wasn't bagged on as much as it has been. PS3 exclusives have been my favorite this year.

How many of these have we seen by now? And people still don't realize "best exclusives" is a matter of opinion.

It's obviously the Wii. How can Gears of War and Metal Gear Solid compete with Cooking Mama and World of Goo?

Let's be honest, if LittleBigPlanet was any other console that would win. If it wasn't for LBP however it would be 360. GoW/Halo > all.

      I personally think it's PS3 > XBOX360 > An Ant > Wii

But it's my opinion and nothing more. It's neither right, nor wrong.. just how I feel

It's just for the year 2008 and it was pretty obvious the PS3 had a better lineup last year. I thought it was clearly without a doubt better, but only 3 points isn't the spread I thought it'd be.

A lot of people are assuming this is over each console's entire lifespan, though. Wish people would actually include important shit in titles nowadays, not just what will attract the most arguments.

Wish he'd either include PC or just include Left 4 Dead in the lineup, though.

You're going to see differing views all over for what's 'best', so how can anything be definitive?

However, I think that getting only three big hitters in a year for PS3 is kinda sad TBH; not the huge comeback I expected. 360 had Gears 2, Fable 2, L4D, and Braid top ratings charts. PS3 had MGS4 and LBP. While admittedly last year wasn't full of blockbusters, we still had more releasing. And personally I think it's about time we got some exclusives that don't disappoint us all the time; more like MGS4, R2 and LBP, please!

    ChozenMaster Jan 7, 09
Correction Red 9. PS3 had only 3 big title releases. As for best exclusives, you are forgetting a game called Valkyria Chronicles. That game was way over looked! And if you want to throw out downloadable titles, don't forget Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty and Lumines Supernova. PS3 had a great 2008 and looks to be carrying that momentum into 2009. Also, L4D isn't a 360 exclusive. I'm currently playing on PC so doesn't really count.

Now while it's no surprise that PS3 was #1 with exclusives in 08 what was surprising is that the Wii was #2. I can only think of maybe 4 hot Wii titles last year, but the only ones standing out above the rest on other consoles was SSBB and No More Heroes.

Lol, I did indeed forget Valkyria Chronicles. That game didn't get nearly enough advertisement. Though that probably saved it from overhype.

Outside of the games they have been riding on since the 64, the Wii's exclusive are horrible.
    • 0
      Mikstaslaya Jan 7, 09
      So these games are horrible?:

      Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
      No More Heroes
Wii Sports (enough people like it that it's casual, but not horrible)
      Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
      Ghost Squad

And it's ok to make a sequel a few times, you know.

Koloth, there's a difference between not being interested in sports games, and just labeling the whole genre mediocre off general principle. Nobody can use the 'my opinion' defense to justify an ignorant view. His statement that he'd give any and all sports games 5/10 is basically prejudiced.
    • 1
      Koloth* Jan 7, 09
If you don't like something you're generally not going to give it a high score. Doesn't matter how many or how good the FPS or sports game you put in fron of me I'm not going to like them. And my personal bias would cause me to rate them rather low.

That's why a reviewer either has to like the genre they are reviewing or they have to be truly unbiased.
      • 1
        iLLmatic Jan 7, 09
Exactly, unbiased. If you don't like an individual game, you can give it a low score, not the whole genre. If you don't like an individual person, you can dislike that person, not an entire race of people. Giving a game a low score is supposed to mean that it's a bad game, not that you just aren't fond of the genre.

I may get Boom Blox (Wii exclusive) when it drops in price, as that seems like a pretty fun game. I like the Mario games on the Wii, so of course the Wii has my favorite exclusive games, but the Wii is a different kind of system than the PS3 and the 360. The PS3 seems to have more entertaining exclusives to me, and some of the 360 "exclusives" can be found on the PC, or will be ported to the PC later.

    Mikstaslaya Jan 7, 09
I am looking more towards the 360's third party titles (such as RE5 and Battlefront III) than its exclusives.

Whats best is relative to ones perspectives, experiences, and outlook on the gaming industry. I'm always going to consider the Playstation branding the best, probably in an unfair manner too, because I grew up with the brand and its a huge part of my life. The same goes for its exclusive games. For me, and Im not saying this on behalf of anyone else opinion, it has the highest quality games which ooze fantastic production values and great development.

As much fun as i've had with my Xbox 360, I must say that I feel I've fallen for the Microsoft hypetrain a little. Many of their "BIG EXCLUSIVES" like Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect, and Left4Dead were not as great as I thought they would be. Then again, the internet is constantly challenged to realistic ideals and opinions. I felt I purchased my Xbox360 more out of hype rather than want. Having said that, my opinions are not the same as everyone else, and many will love the Xbox 360 more than anything else, and good on you for doing so too; showing that you do not conform to internet hype and website bias.

And that, is the reason I hate reviews. Behind the fancy artwork and html spreading, its just peoples opinions. They gloss it all up with fancy wording and comical anecdotes, but its no different to all of us having an opinion..

The Wii's exclusives were average also. Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy bored me senceless, as did Metroid Prime and SSBB. I just felt no connection or enjoyment from them whatsoever. But different people have different experiences and I cannot speak for anyone but myself.

So Im definately a Playstation man. Never again will I buy all three consoles, or more than one console in fact. Sony and their products have my cheque, and for good reason; they have provided ME with the best games and the best experience possible.

Guess what im trying to say is that everyone should just enjoy their favourite console and stick to it. Relish that one experience which feels best to you, and do not let the opinions of others, as much as they may sway you, alter your perception and unique gaming experience. Each to their own.

And another thin- *shot for talking too much*
