A blogger known as MrWeymes has taken it upon himself as to why Sony would never be able to beat Halo. On the subject of Killzone 2, he says "Not a chance!". Grain of truth, or fanboy BS?

MrWeymes Says: It seems like every time an exclusive first person shooter is announced for the Playstation 3, it is instantly dubbed as a "Halo killer" by anticipatory Sony supporters. The original Resistance: Fall of Man comes to mind. While it may have sold well, and established a respectable fan base, it in no way "killed" the Halo franchise. Haze is another game that was hyped up beyond belief, and was also given the title of "Halo killer." That game was met with average reviews, and didn't seem to slay the mighty Halo series, either. Along comes Resistance 2. It looks promising. The graphics have received a considerable upgrade. The scale in the campaign is much larger, and the multiplayer supports up to 60 players, and is very addictive and fun. If anything could kill Halo, it would be this game, right? Nope. Halo lives. Halo hasn't even received any wounds, let alone died. Finally, we have the upcoming Killzone 2. It looks excellent. The graphics seem to push the Playstation 3 further than ever before, the campaign looks exciting, and the multiplayer looks very enjoyable. On top of all of this, the early reviews have been positive. Is this game finally going to slaughter Halo and leave it's children without a daddy? Not a chance, and here is an explanation of why.

I'm sick of all the Halo killer crap. The fact that there needs the be an actual "halo killer" means how big the game is. Why must there be a "halo-killer"? It saddens me.

It doesn't take much to be better than the simplest of first-person shooters out there. Halo is nothing more than MY FIRST FPS.

Here's something that is leagues beyond Halo: Team Fortress 2.

Team Fortress 2 is an awful game, much better FPS games out there.

TF2 is leagues and leagues ahead of any online mutliplayer FPS.

Counter-Strike is the best online FPS, though PC only shooters always do kill console shooters. Lack of auto aim comes to mind as an advantage.

I'm not surprised people would jump at the chance to defend Team Fortress 2 being mainstream rubbish. People who enjoy it really haven't played proper FPS games or they're not any good at them.

Wtf are you talking about Dark Arcanine.

TF2 is a class game. So what because it doesnt have a bunch of stupid idiots playing it because there "pro" its "mainstream rubbish".

OOoooo "Proper" Fps? Please, get the *bleep* over your self. "ur not pr0 lyiek me, ig ots 3/2 k/d ration biactrhcs i am bad"

          Its a damn game ffs.

          Games are for fun.
Not for *bleep*ing treating it like life and for "proz".

          Idiot.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on 'pros'. I suck at FPSs online, doesn't stop me from enjoying. Some just take it too seriously; I don't care about your KDR, mmkay?

It's hardly class. It's barely a year old, to have class it would need to be popular for a substantial period of time and shine above other games. You're such a fanboy having a big cry just because I state it's not a good game.

I'm not a TF2 fanboy. I'm just not a douchebag who calls a game awful because its not for PROZ, Its for people who.. Hmmm... Want to have fun while playing games?

I said proper FPS, I never stated that it has to be for pro people. Counter Strike: Source is a good FPS. It's been around for ages and has a substantial online member base and is one of the top games played over LAN as well.

          And In fact

Team fortress 1 became available in 1996.
Counter strike only came around in 1999.

So by your logic now Team fortress is the better game.

          Good day.

First of all, you're all just using your own opinions as fact, which makes for extremely flawed arguments. No one is obligated to like any game, but just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean that game sucks.

Secondly, video games should be fun, even if you use them as status symbols to show how "pro" you are.

Third, I personally think Team Fortress 2 is the epitome of FPS games. The gameplay mechanics and unique visuals borrowing from popular animation in the 90s are all very well put together. The game is also well balanced, which you can see in how Valve implements the new weapons for each class -- not better nor worse than the originals, so a casual player can still keep up even if they don't go for achievements and unlock the new weapons. That said, I still like the Halo trilogy, Gears of War, Left 4 Dead, etc. So I'm not "pro" but those games appeal to me regardless.

There is a Halo killer on the market. Why? Because not every considers Halo to be the pinnacle of the FPS genre. Gamers can draw their own opinions about their likes and dislikes regarding games thanks; and I wont have anyone tell me different.

Oh and my opinion? My Halo killer is Halo itself. Halo 2 and 3 killed the series; brutally tearing away its awesome campaign structure and relying on multiplayer to be its saving grace.

My thoughts exactly. And tbh, Sony doesn't need a Halo killer. Halo is gone. The series is finished, unless MS and Bungie continues milking the numbered series(which Halo wars isn't like Halo 1-3). What the Sony needs to do is focus on getting the exclusives out quickly and make sure it's on top quality, those games will speak for itself.
It's like also saying PS3 needs a FPS to be a Gears killers. Who gives a flying *bleep*, just play the games you like. And yes I find this to be Fanboy Bullshit at it's finest. Truly someone focusing on *insert game* killer then good quality exclusives and games, which the PS3 is getting right now.

As for KZ2, there's no doubt it's going to be an awesome game, but it doesn't need to beat Gears or Halo. As long as the title is awesome, and definitely doesn't have the issues or flaws(as some people call it)from the first KZ then that's all people care about.

I agree completely. On both parts. The 2nd and 3rd Halo kinda ruined the storyline because they saw everyone liking the multiplayer so much, so they went with that instead.

I liked Halo, but then continued playing the series really only because I had to finish the storyline (I'm quirky like that). After that . . . . didn't much interest me. Of course I may be biased a bit: I don't much like Shooters

Sony does have a game that is bigger than Halo. Not a single Halo game has sold more than Gran turismo (Not an FPS i know but why does sony's best game have to be), all GT games have sold over 9 million worldwide it wouldn't surprise me if sony are pushing back GT so there are more PS3's on the market.

I personally felt Resistance surpassed Halo 3, and probably many other FPS's have as well. The game is getting old now. I agree with the writer of the article.

I play Halo 3 all the time, I still think it's *bleep*ing amazing and enjoy every second.

However I also believe Call of Duty has it edged out in almost every way.

There are several games MUCH better than Halo. The only reason Halo is so "big" and so "great" is the simple reason that it is a "cool" game that only the "cool kids" are playing and that if you don't play it, you're a "noob." It's the mob mentality. I know I use that excuse often, but it's true! People play it not because they think it's actually the best game "EVAR!" But simply because everyone else does it, so they hop on the bandwagon.

      Slumpy monkey Jan 8, 09
I think that's a little harsh way to look at it. I enjoy playing Halo, and a lot of people I know do too.

Sure they may be people who buy it just for the sake of it. But you cant say people only play it to be cool, that's a stupid way to look at it.

      RabidChinaGirl Jan 8, 09
I used to feel that way. Then I actually played it, and I fell in love. It's a fun game. Sure, the typical Halo gamer has a pretty bad rep, but I think a lot of anti-Halo sentiment is pretty unfounded as well.

I personally enjoyed the Halo trilogy quite a bit, and its soundtrack is rather nice. It's not TEH BEST GAME EVAAAR ZOMG but Bungie did an excellent job with the multiplayer and general mechanics of gameplay. Visual designs are nice, like the vehicles, armor, etc. and I think the graphics in 3 are fine. Not the most impressive, but who needs killer graphics to have fun?

In fact I think people hate halo now to look cool.

"oh yeah that halo game, its totally overrated dude. I haven't played it, but it probably is.."

I actually think the graphics are quite decent as well, the lighting effects are nice and the backdrops etc look nice.

Hmm . . . you could be very right. Hate for Halo is probably the same way: bandwagon.

Me, again, I liked Halo the first one. Story-wise. That got me into the second and third one (I have to finish the story in a series, so I had to get them too no matter what). However, the story went downhill after the first one (IMO). The online was decent but (again IMO) not something that deserves people saying "HALO IS THE END-ALL of ALL GAMES!!!!" And have everyone judge other games on it, or say that in order for another console to win they must stack up against it and try to make a Halo-Killer like so many do. THAT'S what I guess I should've said was more of the bandwagon/mob mentality. Because yeah Halo can be fun, but . . . those who tend to Praise it so much that they pretty much shut down every other game as inferior . . . . that's when it's a problem.

Yes it has great things (For one I love the way the online keeps you from going off the maps and think EVERY game should do it that way instead of invisible walls), but like you said RCG, it's not "TEH BEST GAME EVAAAR ZOMG!!!"

Halo is very simple and awesome to play with multiplayer,
A online xbl is the greatest.

I just hate how xbl costs moneys unlike the Wii and PS3.
It's also not wireless which iz sucks.

Rofl at team fortress 2 better than Halo. it's the Wind Waker if FPS.
Also sexbox360, I'd like to see less fps, kinda like PS4 and Wiii
Although wii has a couple good fps coming out next 2009...

I don't give a shit about having a so called Halo killer or not.The fact is that Halo is the most overrated series ever imo.

To me the Timesplitters series is the best FPS series out there.Sure it's not the best in the technological sense, rather in the fact that it has humour and insane amounts of things to unlock.

I don't necessarly hate Halo I just hate how its branded as "best game ever" When there are clearly games that do it much better.

The problem is people spew "best game ever" instead of "my favourite game ever"

Really? How presumptious of you. Because I love TF2 to bits, and I consider myself to be quite the FPS expert, having played and enjoyed many FPS titles in my gaming experience. Since you seem to adamant to have your opinion passed off as legendary fact, please entertain the notion of telling us your favourite FPS games. Let us follow your lead, and tear to shreads any pathetic opinions you have about games. I'll await your reply.

I love all fps team fortress included (always fun to sucessfully pull off being a spy) but Halo right now is my favorite FPS. It's tight controls and at the higher levels team work needed keep it at the top. I'm not going to bash you if you prefer other games though. It's like me bashing someone because they like a different movie. To each his own.
