In this article from PocketGamer, writer Fraser MacInnes asks: should handheld gaming go download only?

The soon coming Nintendo DSi is already about a 1/4 of the way there with DSWare, with the PSP to offer some full titles before long. The games are generally small in size -- is this inevitable? Share your thoughts.

So the question is: should other handheld console manufacturers adopt the 'if you can't beat them, join them' attitude? Or would throwing in the physical retail towel diminish the spectrum of titles that currently exists from hardcore to casual, across all platforms?

I doubt it will unless some major technology change comes around for memory cards which allow us to hold extensive titles and download them in less than an hour.

We already have the technology for that. In fact most of us probably do.

I'd hope they wouldn't go down this route, or at least not yet. There's a certain comfort in having a physical copy of the product as opposed to having it copied to a plain memory card or hard drive.

Also you don't get the perks of physical copies such as selling them once your done with them or loaning them to friends and family, saving money.

Besides convenience there's really not much that you're gaining with downloads. Taking Hard Drive space, download time, possible copyright protection restrictions, etc.

I kinda think it's a bad idea for all games to be downloaded, for the reasons that Ameer and Seeker X said.

On the plus side, downloading games through "other methods" would be easier.
