PSN to SEN: Time to rage quit? - DarkFeed
19 hours 40 mins ago
In this opinion article from Seeking Alpha's Bruce Everiss, we see Sony's status in the industry today examined, from which the question arises: can the company return to its glory days the next generation?
Sony are in trouble because they have no big, successful product differentiators. In fact, for much of what they make you can buy a better equivalent for less money. The Xbox 360 is a prime example and many consumer electronic items from Samsung and LG are further examples. The high value of the Japanese yen is making this even worse.

PS3 = £290
Xbox 360 = £170
170 is a smaller number than 290.
*Equates to the year headstart that the Xbox 360 had and if launched side by side on the same day as the PlayStation 3, sales figures equate that if all stayed the same the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sales would be equal, this is based on the fact that the PlayStation 3 is only 8 million units away from the Xbox 360 at this current moment in time despite launching a year later.
That's what I was addressing with my earlier comment. I didn't say anything about companies making money.
£300 for everything
Xbox 360- £130 for console (arcade model)
60gb hard drive- £70
rechargable battery-£15
wireless adapter- £60
xbox live = £40 a year.
Totals.
PS3 - £300
Xbox 360 - £315
xbox costs more so at least with the ps3 you get everything ready to play online with unlike 360
Xbox 360 (60GB) - £169.99
Rechargable Battery - £9.78
Wireless Adaptor - £44.99
15 Months of XBL - £34.25
Total - £259.01
PS3 (40GB) - £293.61
HDMI cable - £17.61
Total - £311.22
I used shopto.com for pricing and GAME when shopto didn't have what I was looking for.
Everything is slumping in the economy at this point aside from BMW Minis and Rolls Royces.
Despite that, I am not entirely sure if they will make a PS4 either way.
Sony products are overpriced.
Sony are already selling technology so expensive it couldn't be much cheaper. The way you sound you would love every organisation to sell at a loss. Yes you can live by it's only the brand you are paying for, that maybe true for PC's and TV's but not consoles. For once you are paying for the technology, you are paying for the Blu-Ray, CELL, RSX, Rambus RAM. Maybe all that means shit to you but to the technologically inclined it means very good and very expensive.
Let me reiterate that, in a PS3 it's $300, that tech if bought by you for a PC would be $2000+ and thats a serious estimation. So do some research before you say Sony PlayStation 3 is just a brand name it's like me bashing the Xbox 360 because it's a Microsoft product, brands mean nothing when it comes to consoles it's the technology that works out the price and the games that work out how good it is.
Both comments Hunskelper has made here has implied that he really doesn't care about the facts of what the PS3 is, and what it provides. He just seems to be making cheap cracks at Sony.
Personally Sony is in a great position, just not as good as before. NONE of the companies out there are in as good positions as they were a few years ago, not even MS.
DURRRRR.
And I use Open Office instead of Windows Office.
And I couldn't care less if there is a PS4 or not, I quite enjoy the PS3(much more than my Wii) and I plan to buy one soon. If there is no PS4 the third party developers would simply start developing on Nintendo and Microsoft's consoles, and I could still play the games I would have enjoyed on the PS4, albeit on different systems. Its not like there being no PS4 would make purchasing a PS3 a waste, though the PSN servers probably would shut down.
I'm cool with a PS3 for the next 8 years.
As for the PS4, they'd beeter come up with some new shit or else, they'll have nothing left.
I can't think of what Sony can do. Pfft, what's next? Soooper high intelligent ultimate graffix? And it's not helping that the PSP isn't going to get as much attention. The DSi is coming out and parents/Grandparents will be all like, "oh my gosh it's a DS I have to buy this." The DSi may have more extra features, but it's not too different from the PSP's apps. Sony. Maybe you should try better online play and wireless multimedia sync. Also, lower you prices on behalf of less fortunate people.
I never once said $400 was too much for a PS3.
