With both Sony and Microsoft getting hit by the economic crisis and losing to Nintendo's Wii, OXCGN explores if the next console from both could be a joint venture.

With the current economic crisis worsening and with Nintendo happily counting its blessings (and money), perhaps the old adage the enemy of my enemy is my friend is something both companies may eventually consider.

What if Microsoft and Sony were able to co-operate and form a new gaming-only focused company, each holding equal shares and influence?

What if, instead of planning Xbox Next or PS4 they banded together to create a PlaystationX console, the greatest console collaboration ever?

I wouldn't mind this to be honest. If it meant great games from some of the talented minds in the industry all on one platform then sure lets do this.

They can steal Nintendo's...and that isn't such a great idea for 'real' gaming's future....

I wouldn't mind this idea. Free internet + saving music onto hard drive + Backwards Compatability to both = epic win.

This is an "Opinion" piece mate, and there for fits inside the rules of Game Grep. If it didn't, they have the right to remove it.

The author is posing the question ' what would happen' if something like this happened. And there's many an article in main day media composed on such ideas.

The idea has been tossed around for some time actually, and even Denis Durak of Too Human fame has said the same thing more than once.

The articl;e is aimed at raising debate on the subject, not stating fact or making wild accusations, simply asking you, as the reader, to consider such a thing and make constructive comments on it as an adult would.

Taking the economics point of view, this is a good idea, but otherwise, its a bad idea, considering the quality. The competition between PS3 and 360 is what drives 1st party devs to continuously excel at their new games.

It wouldn't work, games would decline in quality and quantity as companies wouldn't need to do better than each other etc.

Considering that XBox is moving forward while PS3 is moving backward, this idea would be horrible. Microsoft and Nintendo collab'ing makes much more sense. Their ideas are way closer on point than Sony and Microsoft... or Sony and anyone, for that matter.

I'm curious as to how you think the PS3 is moving backward? Price? Technology? Games?

They're trying to do too much. Microsoft and Nintendo have the right idea with innovation. Sony, while I can understand what they're trying to do, just doesn't seem to have a grasp on things like "the economy." If Microsoft teamed with Sony they'd get stuck working with a team that's trying to shove as much as possible into a machine regardless of the price, because all us consumers are just so blessed to have this "all in one entertainment device."

You look at the PS2, then look at the PS3, and tell me that Sony didn't miss the bus somewhere.

*Sigh* Again with the Sony is failing and I hate Sony and Sony doesn't have a chance in continuing alone articles people. Gets annoying to hear it over and over again.

Anyway. As much as I like each of the consoles, I would actually hate if the consoles got together and made one console. I like the separate designs, and features.

HOWEVER! What I would absolutely love (and have talked about in the past how they should definitely make it) is if they each made their own consoles, but their consoles could also play the other console's games! They would have their own individual designs, and features specific to their console, but their awesome games, could still be played on the other console (and vice versa). The companies would still be separate, but they'd be . . . slight friends working together to play each other's games.

Wtf? This isn't one of them Sony hate articles. So now if the two words "sony" and "economy" are used together it is against teh rulez of teh intranetz?

Nope. But it doesn't excuse the general attitude of people when speaking about Sony lately. Both articles and Comments.

What happened to your grammar and spelling there at the end of your comment, Slumpy?

EDITED: You also missed the majority of my comment there and focused on 2 sentences . . . Did you have anything to say about my comment overall? Agree, disagree, never thought about it, etc.?

Never going to happen. Sony should relaunch the PS2 with a drive that could play PS3 games.
