Between Mega Man 9, the Resident Evil 5 demo release and the Dead Rising 2/Lost Planet 2 announcement, Capcom has been making all of the right moves lately. Gaming Target looks at how the company seems to understand gamers like no other.

With the recent two-tiered release of the Resident Evil 5 demo, almost a full three months before the game's launch date, Capcom has proven once again how they truly understand the video game industry and community. But their extensive use of pre-release demos is not the only way that Capcom "gets it." The company also has a deep back catalog of games going back to the days of the NES that they mine and refine for game ideas. While some companies could use this history as a crutch, Capcom also takes chances on original titles that are often quirky or unique in some way. While these experiments don't always pay off, they are always interesting.

Lately? I am sorry but Capcom has consistently been a good game company from the NES,to now. They're one of the best gaming conpanies ever, nuff said.

agreed. capcom and konami are some of the few companies that are consistent with decent games for the most part.

        Rock Revolution, anybody?

Really, though, Capcom's a great company. In Konami's defense, however, they do have Metal Gear.

Except for the awful Wii port of Dead Rising right?

I kid, strangely though I don't tend to pick up a lot of Capcom games. For some reason they are rarely my cup of tea. I can acknowledge that they are all good games. But I never want to play them.

A quality I see with most Capcom games is the feeling of unfairness you get while playing. Things that make you yell "BULLSHIT!" Like in Lost Planet where if you get knocked down, it's hard to get back up and you get hurt more. Or RE4 where, some people, might bitch at the ability to not shoot and move at the same time. But that doesn't make it unfair. Rather, it makes it a challenge. All their games are tough. Which is why I love Capcom.

    Good games? Capcom?

Awful lot of person opinion there. For me, their games are hit an miss. Capcom can do much better - but isn't. There are problems with nearly all of their games that are often not acknowledges because they cater to niche groups that have already accepted such flaws - rather than appeal to the general audience who expects more from the developer after all these years.

I agree. I think the problems with RE5 are proof of this.

Wow and you'd definitely know the problems, seeing as you've played the full game haven't you?

Hey nice logic hypocrite. Shouldn't you be out insulting the still-unreleased Dead Rising game for Wii?

I've given up on trying to defend Dead Rising Wii. Fanboys are just too stubborn.

I think that I'd enjoy Dead Rising: CTYD, although it seems watered down, there's plenty of things watered down that I like, Vitamin Water is just watered down Gatorade, I still enjoy it. The CVS mouth wash isn't as strong as Listerine, yet I still feel the burn and enjoy the clean feel it gives me.

Big A2, thats not fair saying that the people who think Dead Rising Wii will suck are fanboys. Lets say you have a pie that was made with fake, artificial ingredients and was made in a factory but you have another pie made with real strawberries and was home made, baked nicely in an oven by mom. Which pie would you choose? I am sure the answer is obvious, and thats what gamers see when they see Dead Rising Wii and Dead Rising 360, a half-assed imitator and one made with alot of effort. Now if they would have taken that money and resources to make a completely new game for the Wii, than I am sure more people would be excited. Instead Wii owners without a 360 will feel like they're playing a version that not as much effort was put in, in comparison to the original.

It has nothing to do with being a fanboy (well maybe for some) it simply has to do with superior product in comparison to an inferior one.

Oh jesus, there you go. You don't need to play the game to see all that's wrong with it. Really, it's like you bitching at me for saying that the Burger King games that were on 360 were shitty without actually playing them.

Even better, you just said you've given up on defending Dead Rising Wii (why on Earth would you?) because "fanboys are too stubborn", yet here you are bitching at people pointing out how it's so fundamentally flawed from the get-go that it's near impossible to consider it good by the standards set by the 360 version.

I'm not a 360 fanboy, most 360 fanboys would call me a PS3 fanboy. Even though I bought the 360 and the Wii anyway. And I still think the Wii port is going to suck.

I think the point you're missing Big A2 is the people hating on the game are the people that loved the game to begin with. The things we loved were the sheer number of zombies on screen. Something Capcom has admitted over and over won't be in the port. And the ability to take pictures of things. Again something taken out of the game. People are bothered thinking that because of the lack of zombies that the gameplay will be lacking as well. After all you can't very well plow through a crowded mall of zombies that isn't crowded. We will see. But you whould really stop trying to defend the game all together. People aren't going to stop comparing it to the original. And compared to the original it is subpar.

So? I don't know Paris Hilton as a person, but she's still a hoe. I never played Barbie Horse Racing Adventures, but I am pretty sure that game sucked, and I never tried drinking clam juice, but I am sure that would taste like shit. In the end its all assumptions, but assumptions with evidence to back up the claims. Not enough to say its a flat out fact, but enough to give reasonable understanding as to why someone would be inclined to think that way.

      Devil May Cry
      Street Fighter
      Mega Man
      Breath of Fire
      Dead Rising
      Lost Planet
      Viewtiful Joe
      Resident Evil

Hmm... niche audience? With millions upon millions of game sales through out the years? Really? You might want to think that over Mr Gray.

        Mr Gray Feb 4, 09
Niche- adjective: pertaining to or intended for a market niche; having specific appeal.

Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Breath of Fire, Resident Evil, and many others are all part of respective series' with very specific designs and objectives. As such, these series' accumulate a fanbase that accepts the flaws because they are 'tradition' with the series. Devil May Cry definitely follows a formula, as does Street Fighter, Mega Man, and now Resident Evil (4 changed up gameplay, 5 sticks with it).

That said, no need for venom. You might not agree with what I have to say, but you don't have to bust out with the personally directed sarcasm.

Side scrolling platformer, 3D action, fighting, RPG, horror/action...doesn't seem too niche to me. Then again, I guess they are if your only non-niche genre is sports games.

Never played many capcom games. Konami was only good for yugioh games when I was young. Don't hate me I mean MGS4 is great.

Well, if you played the demo there's the AI (both the enemies and the player's partner are stupid), the awful control scheme, lack of ragdoll and the lack of anything innovative. I know it's not finished, but demos usually contain something that makes the game worth playing.
It felt like RE4 with bigger environments and better graphics.
(sorry I couldn't reply under your comment, Darknet, GameGrep wouldn't let me. )

How the hell is lack of ragdoll any sort of flaw? Frankly, I think ragdoll is so over done it has become rather stupid and pointless. When done right it is neat and fun to watch. But it is rarely done right.

        Thank you Koloth!

        Wtf is this guy on about lack of ragdoll? When i shoot a infected i want them to fall to the floor and DIE not fly across the goddamn map whilst flailing their arms ; ;

The AI has been done very well and Sheva is probably one of the most intelligent AI's I have ever come across. The controls worked perfectly and were basically the same as RE4's which is fantastic. What the hell do you mean lack of anything innovative? The whole demo is FILLED with innovative things, one of my favorites being the fact that you can share ammo with your partner and also help them from dying.

        Go rant somewere else because your opinion sucks ; ;

If a dev' can take the time to make some pretty cool death animations (legs/arms shacking) it pays off over a limp body that died from a shot (hitbox) to the toe.

Some games however, can be awfully stiff in their animations. D:
