New Challenger: 3 Reasons Why Gaming Will Destroy Itself Part 1
10 hours 23 mins ago
An article about the way KillZone 2 has created such a stir that some writers are no longer even excited to play the game. KillZone 2 is compared to the Star Wars prequels, in that it's been hugely promoted, but some writers are dreading it as a game experience.
In a very honest and appealing look at the whole KillZone 2 hype and review fiasco, Lawrence Sontag takes the time out to look at why KZ2 has been receiving high scores and specifically how the game itself relates to those scores. A word of warning, if youre a fanboy you might not want to read any further than this.

although saying that, im getting annoyed that its know the yang to say killzone 2's gameplay is 'substandard' just because its visuals are a league ahead.
i personally thought the controls were quite revolutionary with how heavy and realistic it felt
Alt 2 controls are awesome though.
I didn't think the controls for either KZ1 or 2 were anything special. Its was the visuals that made them work (head bob, etc). The most comfortable controls i've ever used on a console based FPS belongs to the Timesplitters series (TS2/TS3:Future Perfect). Other games have come close, but it usually boils down to games with a very very streamlined frame rate. The TS series was capable of pulling 4 player splitscreen on any console it was on, and with ex-RARE employees working with Free Radical at the time, there's no wonder the TS games played so smoooooothly.
KZ2 has taxed frame rate, as do many FPS games that push the graphical limits. 30fps I think it was - that's not that smooth. On top of that, kZ2 lacks acceleration options, and only has sensitivity options (demo). If the final version includes acceleration options, then woot. Hopefully it includes full button assigment options too.
I don't understand why every game doesn't have this. It can't be that hard, surely!
What the hell else is new? Newsflash: A LOT of games are overhyped pretty much ALL the time. If that's going to ruin a game for you, then you obviously never gave two shits in the first place. MGS4 was and is hyped as one of the best games ever even though most people find it average. Halo is piped by many as the greatest FPS series even though many others find it to be just another FPS. GTAIV was given perfect scores by many even though most of the public thought it was only average as a game and shit as a GTA. Things get overhyped in this industry, it has happened for a very long time and will most likely happen for as long as games are being made; just deal with it.
I will agree with the last point that hype needs to be spread out more though. Certain games aren't getting the coverage they deserve, but at the end of the day what's going to help that problem more: actually covering those games and trying to get info on them and stuff or just bitching about it whilst doing *bleep* all to change it?
sure the graphics are top notch, and i wouldn't doubt that it's fun (and i'm sure it is). but come on guys. we've seen shit like this before, it's not that damn exciting.
I don't really see anything different with this than any other FPS, but I'm all for something that will boost the PS3's image, and it might just be the great game that the hype would lead us to believe.
I might borrow this from a friend to see if it's better on disc, otherwise I might be one of the few skipping this title.
No really, that's EXACTLY it.
These guys say the game is overhyped - they say it does nothing to stand out (they have not played it, and it has not been released yet, obviously), and that it's a victim of overhype. They're also pretty much advising all to ignore it, and that's *bleep*ing criminal for a game website.
And go figure - I trash talked them, and they still displayed my commentary on the message feedback box.
Can you say iNtLlim@gEnt?
Hard Rain.
