After the recent announcement that GTA: Lost And The Damned Goes Full Frontal , the 'net has gone crazy over the controversy of a man's junk being on display to the gaming world. But Winda Benedetti, of MSNBC, wants to see more of it. She thinks it's time that gamers and the gaming industry grew up in order for this kind of content to go forward, stop making a big deal out of the body parts that every human has, and help turn video-games into the mature medium that gamers want them to be.

My question then is this: Video games have been around for decades now. Decades. So when are they — and when are we — going to finally grow up?

Writes blingbling078: “gta always tries to push the envelope but to have full frontal male nudity? with pubes and all? Wtf ... just beat that mission last nite. after that i had to stab my eyes out.”

All of which illustrates my point: Something just isn’t right when the appearance of a penis — an organ that at least half the planet sees on a daily basis — makes headlines when it shows up in a video game … not to mention makes people want to stab their eyes out.

If all was right with the world, depicting sex and sexuality in video games meant for adult players would raise nary an eye brow. After all, adults in the real world have sex. Adults in movies have sex. So why shouldn’t adult characters in video games get it on or, you know, appear in their computer-generated birthday suits?

Dear gamers: stop confusing sex, violence, and profanity with maturity. Mature stories are not necessarily always the filthiest ones.

Couldn't agree more, Rick! But you have to realize that many gamers are stuck in their way of thinking, which is hindered by being overdosed with libido.

I agree with you, but we shouldn't be so damn afraid of it either. America is one of the most uptight countries when it comes to sex......everyone does it, everyone wants it.....but everyone tries to pretend it doesn't exist.

How many people talk shit about the porn industry? And how many BILLIONS of dollars did it pull in from the US alone?? About 25. I didn't buy any of it, so who did? No one wants to admit that a little bit of skin may turn them on, it's those people who need to become more mature.

Not to mention, we've already gone through this type of thing before.

I mean, guys, this is not the first time this has happened. There was a time when the U.S. legal system was set up so authority figures could arrest and prosecute people for simply having sex.

Tides only change when people "cross the line" or "push the boundaries". Like this article states, this isn't about adding more nudity or profanity just for the sake of giggles, on the contrary, this is something that we AS A WHOLE need to be a little more mature about. It's pretty clear who's running the mainstream media when FOX news went on a rant to discredit video games (such as hounding Mass Effect's scene).

It's about social norms. Eh... same goes for media. Can't point fingers at video games and accuse them (and gamers) of being immature unless she addresses the world around us as well.

I think like anything, it shouldn't be there just for the sake of being there. If it adds something to the game, then I really can't see why not. If it's simply in the game for no good reason, then why bother?

Although I'm kinda surprised people are kicking up such a stink about this. It's Rockstar with the GTA series. They've been constantly breaking boundaries. That's simply how the series is and when you play it, you really have got to expect the unexpected, cause it'll probably happen.

I think, excuse me, I KNOW, that I will stop playing video games more and more, then ultimately, if nudity and sex become more rampant in video games. I'd rather have some decent fun and entertainment, not be drowned out by lewdness and filth.

It's true that games do change by the social norms, and yet most gamers will say they play games to ESCAPE from the real world and life in it. So if promiscuity is increased in real life, and games start adding it because it becomes the "norm," it certainly wouldn't add up.

To me . . . I don't like to change with the world. I like being my own person, not going with what everyone else says is awesome. I don't enjoy having someone's crack shoved in my face when playing games. Nor do I like someone's breasts, or . . . "reproductive organs" shoved at me in the name of "entertainment."

If I wanted that sort of entertainment, I'd go hire a hooker, go to a strip club, or go find some strangers (as many are willing nowadays, and I used to do such a thing). Then I'd video tape them to relive it for a single cost.

But no . . . I play video games to HAVE FUN. And that is not my idea of fun. If promiscuity moves into the video games norm, then I will first stop playing, and then I will probably become anti-video games and be actively against them because it just proves all those other anti-games people right, and I'd no longer have an argument for games that holds water. "Oh, well . . . there's one or two child's games that don't have that in it!" Yeah. Right. Whoopti-do!

Okay, Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

Video games = next generation movies.

Movies have plenty of nudity (albeit, mostly female) these days.

Thusly, games should have plenty of nudity in em (in the future anyhow), where applicable of course.

I think more nudity couldn't hurt, just as long as there is a good boob to wang ratio, I don't want an overabundance of pork swords ruining my games.

I think if the story justifies it, then sure. Tit for the sake of tit seems like a waste of polygons.

    Good Polygons, but wasted ones.

Personally I don't see the big deal, the movie industry have done it for years and hell for centuries the slogan "sex sells" explains it all. In this last century alone with the aid of technology, sex and use of the opposite gender have made the general public buy many products.

The only problem I have seen is when people decide to add a softcore sex scene into something when it isn't needed and is just there because they "can" put it in.

As long as they don't add it in games that normally wouldn't have it in or wouldn't use sex/nudity within the storyline then things should run smoothly but that's one thing that was missing from the already 18+ Fallout 3. Before anyone is disgusted at me for saying this I would like to say I do not condone the act of rape in real life and wish for all actual rapists to be shot on sight, However within the world of Fallout 3, it would be acceptable, it would add onto the act of survival and immerse you further into the gaming world...or not even act of rape but sex.

There are several dialogue options that exist within Fallout 3 that motions towards sex but nothing ever comes of it except for one which allows you to wake up beside the woman Only reason it does that is because Beth Soft knows they would have got many hate mails for that but personally if the game is already 18+ or edging towards it then why not add it in anyway?

Here is the deal: I've been both a gamer and a born-again Christian since I was 5. I've never liked the GTA series, because you play the role of a criminal thug in each game, doing the kinds of things a criminal would do, but I do enjoy many shooters and RPGs with realistic violence. I'm ok with this because death and killing are subjects that can be explored in the light of "heroism" (think soldiers and police officers); however, I have never liked the idea of sex and nudity in games: I think it's lame and a form of "cheap thrills", with nothing heroic or praiseworthy about it. (I feel the same way about sex scenes in R-rated movies: they're cheap and unnecessary. If I wanted to get off watching sex, I'd watch a porno.)

Now, I am married, and I love and respect my wife. She is willing to let me continue to play violent games, as long as I keep them out of the sight of our children. (I whole-heartedly agree.) However, understandably, she is not ok with games that have nudity and sex scenes, and slow to approve of a game with skimply clothed girls. The trend today seems to be that every game with an adult audience is going to have these elements in it. That means that the gaming industry is going to lose me, a die-hard gamer of over 25 years, as a customer. I suspect that there are many others like me out there.

Keep nudity and sex in porn games and games like GTA, and leave it out of mainstream gaming.

Anything aimed at the adult audience has had sex, nudity and violence in it for decades, even centuries if we're going into "entertainment" and not just video games. In medieval times and the dark ages, kids as young as 8 stood with their parents to watch criminals being executed in the most inhumane way. It has only been the last several hundred years or so that people started to turn away from such things.

If we're talking sex and nudity, that's been around just as long as violence, except instead of turning people away from it, it is embraced as a selling aid. Booth Babes, Page 3, Playboy, Victoria's Secret, any women clothing retailer, Zoo, Nuts...and that's just labelling a few to entice men...there they are many more to entice women and so on.

My point is...it's aimed at adults because it is seen that the majority of adults can handle it and like it (I agree with you as in keep it away from kids), personally my whole view on this is simple...if it is only affecting you and not anyone else (as in you're not forcing someone who dislikes it to watch/play it or obviously you aren't going out and killing people etc.) then why the hell should anyone else stick their nose into your business?

Now I am not attacking anyone or anything like that but it's like the cheating situation in games. If you cheat in a singleplayer game then that is up to you, if you don't like to cheat then fine but don't tell anyone else what they can and can't do.

However if you cheat in a multiplayer game then you deserve to be shot. The same goes for this subject, though in mainstream games, either it should stay as it is to keep everyone happy or "extra features" should be added...like a "turn on/off gore" option...this way it is up to the player
