New Challenger: 3 Reasons Why Gaming Will Destroy Itself Part 1
10 hours 30 mins ago
Electronic Theatre offers a decisive perspective of the Current-Generation console "war", and decides the victor based on market trends and social awareness.
Selecting a "winner" for each console generation is somewhat of a nonsensical engagement. Before even beginning to assess the merits of your sources of sales figures, release dates, review scores and other such relevant texts, you have to consider exactly what qualities a "winner" would possess. Would it be the largest quantity of widely renowned videogame releases of a high quality? Or that which had increased its library from the previous-generation to the greatest extent? Perhaps the defining merit would be the console manufacturer who had managed to increase their market share by the greatest margin? Or that which pushed the industry into new territory? Or maybe, it's simply the console that sold the most units?

Video gaming isn't any different.
I find the whole "OMG AH HATE FANBOYS SOO MUCH
Or are we talking like harcore game consoles such as PS3 and Xbox.
When all the fanboys spontaniously keel over and die at once then these types of articles will disappear.
Not to mention I'll be able to die a happy man lol.
I hate this whole console war. All it really is to me is a bunch of fanboys arguing with deaf ears because others won't listen due to their own fanboyism.
The Wii has some fun games, especially for family/friend get-togethers. Plus it adds something of its own with the excessive use of motion to play.
The PS3 is a hardware behemoth with advanced technology that hasn't yet been fully used, and has some great action/adventure games for middle-ground gamers.
The 360 has a great fanbase for online (can nearly always find people online) and great online features, and games that in my oppinion gear more towards hardcore shooter fans.
Just play the games

I'm waiting for the next shitstorm to happen, it's hilarious because in here it's "I don't care", the next day it's "*bleep* YOU, BRIAN WILLIAMS, I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE A DIPSHIT"
You know what, I think the 360 is best.
Like I said, I think the 360 is best.
On top of that you can't really debate who is going to win. The Wii has a clear lead at this point and no amount of wishing is going to change that anytime soon. The 360 is solidly in second place. And the PS3 is doing well in third but short of the 360 lagging in sales again this year it is doubtful it will close the gap. At this point I think the consoles have taken the positions they are going to stay in until they are replaced next gen. It would take a drastic change in buying trends to change things.
On the other hand we won't have a run away winner this gen either. The PS3 and 360 are alreayd doing better than the Xbox and GC were doing last gen. And The Wii while having a good lead isn't exactly running away with it unchallenged. So in the end the numbers will be better than last gen but I think position is pretty much decided.
Also, there's a little report button next to every comment so if a fanboy did come along and ruin our debate we can get themdealt with quickly and efficiently.
Right, so let's debate -- I'll start
I think the 360 is best because it has the highest number of top quality exclusives over the widest range of genre's (for me top quality is anything 8.5/10 or higher).
Now you go.
So by 8.5/10 do you mean what you would rate the game or what all those website that control us mindless gamers rated it?
It's fine to express which console you like the best, but . . . that's far from a debate. And again, it's an oppinion.
But I'm not going to argue an opinion. I played Gears it was alright. I played Dead Rising it was entertaining. I played Lost Odyssey I got bored before the end but it was still pretty good. I bought the 360 to play NG2 and amazingly never finished it.
On the other hand I personally found Uncharted more entertaining than any of those. I played it through at least 4 times. I spent way more time on MGS4 than Gears. I played the Gears campaign once I played MGS4 at least 5 or 6 times. And I played Ratchet and Clank multiple times. For me, and me alone the PS3 is better. I play it more and I find the games more appealing over all. And this isn't something you can prove me wrong on. It is purely my personal opinion. I enjoy the 360 when I play it, but given the choice I would play the PS3 first. And usually do.
On top of that I usually buy multiplatform title for the PS3 just because I prefer it. Mainly because I liek the controller better. Again personal preference doesn't make the PS3 better, just better for me.
As for quality exclusives I'll list what I think are quality games for PS3 and 360;
360: Call of Duty 2, Condemned, Perfect Dark Zero, Prey, Saints Row, Gears 1 and 2, Crackdown, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Fable II and Left 4 Dead. Total = 12.
PS3: Resistance, Ratchet and Clank 5, Uncharted, MGS4, LBP and Killzone 2. Total = 6.
These list don't include JRPG's, racing or fighting games because I don't like these genre's but for every Gran Turismo there's a Forza/PGR.
So really this whole thing is about which console HARDWARE is best? Well okay then. THAT we can discuss.
However, hardware alone does not a console make. Therefore hardware does not determine which console is best. It has to be a combination of hardware and software. Then again, some people may see the huge amount of features of one console and say "Wow!" Whereas those who have no interest in those features, will say "Eh, no biggie."
What use is a feature-rich console that has games you don't enjoy playing? Bragging rights? Yeah you have yourself one expensive trophy to put on the shelf and never use.
What use is a console that has several AAA, highly rated (by reviewers biased by personal taste) games, yet you don't enjoy those games? Yay! You have yourself another trophy to set on the shelf and not use!
So you see, Hun . . . skelper (
Exactly, what you think are quality. I however have no interest at all in CoD, Halo, L4D, PDZ, or Condemned. It is all opinion. It has nothing at all to do with not offending others. It has to do with the realization that better and best is a matter of opinion.
I think Root beer is better than Dr. Pepper and Dr. Pepper is better than Coke. In fact I hate Coca Cola and I hate Pepsi even more than that. But they both sell millions of cans a day. Does that make my opinion wrong? No, it just makes it my opinion.
I'm running my PS3 right now to watch a movie. And later I might play some Rockband or a PSN game. After than maybe a blu-ray. But in all likelyhood I won't even turn on my 360 today.I didn't turn it on yesterday or the day befor and probably won't tomorrow either. But my PS3 is on every day for one reason or another. Although I do have Duke Nukem to play on 360 which I might just do later. Who knows.
Point is, we don't know. Speculation is OK, but predicting the final outcome this early is just a needle in a haystack.
