That Gaming Site discusses moves Sony could and should make in 2009 to improve the PS3's standing in the latest console war.

An honest, well argued article that examines the PS3's current situation without bias and makes recommendations to Sony.

TGS: "We believe in Sony's PS3. These changes can bring the current underdog closer to success."

"We here at That Gaming Site do not take sides and do not have console favorites. We do, however, wish to see the gaming industry remain healthy and recognize that in order to do so competition must remain fierce in the ongoing console battle. With that in mind, we have created a few relatively simple, but effective moves Sony can make to strengthen their position throughout 2009 as they seek the hearts of gamers everywhere."

Again with the price cut. The sheer idiocy of the people that try to reason a price-cut is getting ridiculous. Sony already takes a loss on each system, and cutting the price will serve to move more systems, but at a greater loss. If they get the manufacturing costs down they can do it, but right now it is unreasonable, and the arguments for it are asinine. Say what you really feel" I want a PS3 but I want to pay what I would for a DVD player with an HD"(ie an XBOX). Don't try to use extremely flawed logic. It makes the whole gaming community appear incompetent.

PS3 cost at sale is now about even. 8 months ago Sony lost $200 per console sold. A change in manufacturing process 3 months ago brought it down to a $50 loss. Best analyst guesses are now that the loss period of development (at current prices) is now over.

Perhaps the only reason people want Sony's PS3 to get a price cut is so that they can buy it, or in the case of developers, develop for it and maximize their sales. I think that people want to develop for the PS3, but just don't want to risk the chance of getting very little money from it because no one can afford the PS3. Sure it will screw Sony over now, but later on they can just brush it off once the PS3 starts getting some positive attention.

IMHO this article is excellent and I absolutely agree 100% with everything they've said.

I'm sure none of those ideas have ever occured to Sony in the many, many meetings they've had about this exact subject.

I'm sure they have, they've just known that it would take tons of money and time to do.

Which is why they don't need random websites trying to solve their problems by trying to tell them things they already know, have deeply considered and have picked apart to no end.

No doubt, I bet Sony would be quite happy to do every single one of those things. But about the points themselves, with the first one Microsoft patented the music idea, the second is not Sony's fault, and indeed developers as used by its examples are clearly figuring out how to solve the install problem, the third point is hardly a huge feature, the fourth is fair enough, and the fifth as others have said is just stupid, Sony can't afford it.

Pretty sure they've all been mentioned to hell and back, this is certainly nothing new. However I do wish that CAPCOM (you paying attention, you cheap *bleep*s?) would QUIT making their games dump a 5 Gig load on the Hard drive.

Sony should just quit if they're losing so much money and everyone should just buy xbox's as they're far superior.

i believe sony kids are defending the PS3s price because they shelled out 600$ for the damn thing and now they'll be pissed aif anyone else actually gets it for a reasonable price.

the ps3 is a *bleep*ing mortgage payment. i dont care how many shiny new pieces of hardware are glued into the damn thing - it is too damn much money for a video game console.

Meh, I work a part-time job for £5.84 an hour and was able to pay my PS3 off in one pay-cheque, and still have money left over. For who it's aimed at - students and young adults - it's an affordable console if you're prepared to work for it. I think it was most definitely worth the money I paid for it, especially considering the fact that the 360 would have actually cost me more by the time I bought all the necessary accessories.

Heh, try paying over $800 for mine. Of course it was a launch unit, which was what I wanted. Yeah some may not want a price cut because it'd make them feel cheated or something, but not everyone is like that. I can't wait for the price to lower so that I can get another one, and friends and family can get them one too.

    PS3 and price cut = #2

I'd have to agree that those things would be nice, but I'm right there with Tiger and Silver. Sony have definitely already thought of this, but currently can't. Yet I expect some of those things to end up happening sometime in the future within the life of the PS3.

I agree with the personzlized music in-game. It's something that the 360 has and would be quite enjoyable to have on the PS3.

I can't stand people who whine about the mandatory installs. It's. Not. That. Bad. C'mon, you do it every single time you want to play a PC game but you never see anyone complain about that. The fact is console gaming is getting closer and closer (in terms of technology) to a PC, so it only makes senese to having an install. Running code off of the hard drive is a lot faster than running it from an optical drive. If the hdd install complainers aren't complaining about the install they're complaining about load times. Seriously people, get over it The time it takes to install you can be doing something constructive like spending time with your kids, family, writing your memoirs, w/e. I wonder if the majority of the people who complain about this are the ones who sit there waiting through the entire install, or if they understand the technological reasons behind installations.

Hmm cross game chat I'm on the fence about. With vent on the PC I always found it chaotic to be in the same channel as someone else who was playing a different game if they weren't playing by themselves. I don't want to hear about your -50 DKP in WoW when I'm playing L4D. BUT it is good for just general socialization in smaller groups.

You know, I remember a couple months back when people kept going on and on about 2009 being PS3's big year, and so far all I've heard about is slumping console sales and lack of software support. Where will the madness end?
    • 0
      HisServant77 Mar 21, 09
Well because it's still early in the year so people will down it as much as possible before anything positive happens.

Yes, but you'd think that people who own the damn thing would be more optimistic than that. I always figured professionals were more mature about this kind of stuff, but they fall victim to the common stigma that the PS3 = FAIL just as easily as the next guy.

          HisServant77 Mar 21, 09
I used to think they were more mature than that too But this console generation and being on the internet during it has shown otherwise

    1. never really seen the appeal unless you were going to do something like a match vid.

    2. some installs and DLs are probably bloated, but I don't see this as a big problem.

A version that comes with some stuff already on the HDD could be interesting.

    3. OK, although at the same time you lose the ability to turn Jerk McKnowitall off by switching games.

    4. Ok, but how much of that is Sony and how much is HDnet itself?

    5. Here's the thing. If you didn't jump on before the current versions came out, you're paying the same prices for less stuff. There's certainly lots of discussion on the cost of the emotion engine and such, but not on other things like the card slots.

Can we get a proper music visualiser please? In-game music would be cool, but I mean, any PC released this decade can give me a proper visualiser. Why not my PS3?

      HisServant77 Mar 21, 09
Are you serious? Man the PS3 visualizer is the most awesome one I've ever seen in my opinion!

Haha, well it'd be nice to have a regular one (couple of them), but honestly I'd never use it myself.

I just wish you could control the rotation...every time I start up music I expect to be able to control it "DEFEATED AGAIN"

I honestly didn't even know the 360 had a visualizer...considering I can actually do other things while using it. The same way I never use the PC visualizer.

The PS3 visualiser just plays a premade scene.............it does not ebb and flow with the music being played.

I prefer the Earth visualizer over the psychadelic colors of the PS2 and 360 visualizers. Gives the music a sort of "grand" vibe.

Actually it does ripple and such based on the music. As well as speeds up and slows down. It also, amazingly enough, many times guesses at the best place to start based on how light or heavy the music is (If you put in hard rock, most of the time it seems to start it out with what you'd think: reds, yellows . . . fiery looks

Which visualizer are you referring to, HisServant?
        • 0
          HisServant77 Mar 23, 09
The first one they had. Not the Earth or the smokey wave resembling the background, but the one that flows from one graphic to the next.

Not sure how to describe it, but do you understand which one I mean?
